I slid my skirt up my newly shaved legs and shoved my feet into my flats. I had to go to work. Groan. This was my first day back since my maternity leave which meant i was extremely anxious to get back into the swing of things.
My husband Mikey was in a band name 5 Seconds of Summer but they had a few days off so he watched our baby, Charlotte. I checked my appearance one more time in the full length mirror before strolling out of my bedroom. The baby was on Michael's lap as he ate his bowl of cereal.
He slowly bopped his knee up and down making Charlotte erupt into a fit of giggles. Turning around when he heard me come in, a smile broke out onto his face. "Morning sweetheart. Going to work?" I nodded my head as I quietly made my coffee. "Okay well me and Lottie will be here when you come back." I walked right up to him and placed a kiss passionately on his lips "Bye y/n." He whispered on my lips.
Work was slow as usual. Michael was constantly sending me messages saying everything was fine at home and they missed me. Basically he blew up my notifications and got me in trouble several times for being on my phone when I should have be working.
My phone buzzed again on my small desk. Another text from my beloved dork. This one made me smile though. It read: "hey babe we miss you. see you soon xx" and attached was a picture of Mikey and Charlotte cuddled up in our bed. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I quickly wiped them away, remembering I was at work.
Karen, my co-worker, caught the sight of me wiping my eyes with my fingertips and urgently aided to my side. "what's wrong y/n?" I glanced up and showed her the messages. she smiled and knelt next to me. "Hey y/n, I asked if you could take off a couple hours early this week just to ease into work again. The boss said it was fine. Why don't you go home? I know it must be hard." She gave me a little shove towards the door and waved goodbye. I mouthed a "thank you" and proceeded to my car.
When I reached home I practically ran inside. I was met by michael rocking Lottie side to side. He softly cradled her in his arms. Not knowing I walked in, he continued to quietly hum while getting a rhythm started. I crossed my arms over my chest and laid my back on the door. Tears again began to form in my eyes.
I swiftly walked over to my husband and daughter before wrapping my arms around Mikey's waist. He quickly brought a finger to his lips gesturing me to keep quiet. Then he leant down and pecked my lips before whispering "Welcome home."
