It was rhythmic, faint, but constant.

He used his finger to tap against the edge of his glasses' frame in the steady metronome of 3/4 time.

The man sat in his gutted lab. His machines and equipment were taken, stolen, from him. Only an outline of their forms remained, leaving a jarring reminder of the greatness he could have accomplished.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

The lab was shrouded in darkness. The only light breaking through the shadow was that of a computer screen. The only image on it was a blurry dark figure. Its eyes glowed an ominous red and four long thin limbs stretch out from its back. The man sneered at the image, yet another person who thought he could steal from him.

Tap.

Tap.

>Calibration Complete.<

Tap.

The man paused after finishing the final tap of three. His eyes drifted to a large glass container filled with gleaming black sand. He gave it though, an order: Move.

The dark substance shifted and churned as if something living dwelled just under the surface.

Satisfied, the man grinned.
