"HEY, BELLA," KATHLEEN CALLS, hurrying over to her and slinging an arm around the human's shoulder, smile shrinking as she winces under cold, hard flesh. Backing away from her, Kathleen's orange eyes flicker over to her ute, lips parting into a grin when the vampire notices the dirt bikes under the tarp. "Dirt bikes? You heading out to see Jake with those things?"
"Uh, yeah," the human girl replies, seeming hesitant around Kathleen for some reason. Then again, it could be because the vampire reminds her of Edward, not to mention the rest of the Cullens, and that's more than likely bringing up things she'd rather not feel or remember right now.
"Look, I know you're not too fond of me right now given everything," Kathleen murmurs, making her look at the vampire with startled eyes. "But is there a chance I'd be able to hang out with you guys? I'm not sure if anyone else would want to be around me because of me being a Cullen and all..."
Bella gives Kathleen a faint smile and motions for the vampire to climb into her ute. "Sure. I'm sure Jake'd be more than happy to meet you."
For the whole ride Kathleen's lips remain sealed, not once telling Bella that Jacob and herself already know each other from one of the yearly Quileute bonfire meetings that Embry and Jared had dragged the vampire to a few weeks ago. Jacob didn't hang around for much of it, and not only because he's yet to phase, but he didn't want to be anywhere near Sam when the Alpha came out of the trees with Paul in tow. If Kathleen didn't know the man as well as she does, she's sure that she would feel intimidated enough to give him a wide berth, but Kathleen knows that she wouldn't up and leave just because he showed up somewhere she was.
Once the Black residence comes into view, the scent of dog hits Kathleen like a brick wall, her nose crinkling in initial disgust before she becomes accustomed to it once again, the beating of both Billy's and Jacob's hearts are dull thuds in the background. Pulling up outside the shed, Kathleen climbs out the window of the ute and drops to the muddy ground, her Docs gaining further mud on them as Jacob pokes his head out of the tin building, a wide grin appearing on his youthful face.
