i spent the whole night thinking about the mysterious boy from the record shop. it was just so odd, i mean he had to have a pretty good reason for taking those pictures, right?

thinking so much about the boy resulted in a major lack of sleep, which explains why right now i'm sitting half asleep in my pre-calculus class with bloodshot eyes and a clouded mind. i mean, who the hell thought it was a good idea to make pre-calc a first period class? why can't mrs. hemmings' break be first period rather than last?

all i want is to have time to wake up, to drink a cup of coffee... honestly anything would be better than sitting through this class at this point. it's not that i hate math, it's just that three hours of sleep is definitely not enough for me to function on a friday.

shit.

forget my lovely plans to take a nap after school, i have to hang out with ashton. i know i should be thankful, rather than upset, that i have a boyfriend, and ashton is really fucking perfect, but i'm just not in the mood today.

"alina johnson!"

"yes?" i look up, my thoughts interrupted by mrs. hemmings. she gives me a look that tells me i better start paying attention and i nod my head quickly before opening my notebook.

i feel a tap on my left shoulder and i turn my head around, only to be met with piercing blue eyes and a smirk. i roll my eyes and go back to writing notes, but this doesn't stop him from tapping my shoulder again. this time i don't even bother turning around before whispering "what do you want, lucas?"

"that's not my name!" he whines quietly and i look down to hide my grin.

"sure it is."

"that's not my name!" he says loudly, making the whole class go dead silent, including his mother. i turn around and his cheeks turn to a light shade of pink as his mom walks closer to him.

"luke, what is the problem? because i'm sure whatever it is is definitely more important than my class, right?"

"i'm sorry mu- mrs. hemmings. i just got annoyed because alina was trying to talk to me while you were teaching one of your bor- amazing, er, math problems!" luke stutters and i laugh. there is no way she's going to believe that shit excuse.

"are you kidding me, luke? everyone heard you say 'that's not my name'." i laugh, imitating his deep australian accent. "what really happened was..."

it's now 3:00 and luke and i are sitting in a nearly empty classroom, the boringly quiet atmosphere of the room almost making me fall asleep. i am currently chewing gum silently, and he is listening to music in his headphones and quietly humming along. i recognize the song he's humming as therapy by all time low, and i start to hum along with him.

he notices this and smiles, looking around apprehensively before standing up and sliding into the desk beside me. "you like all time low?" he asks in a whisper.

"yes! they're one of my favorite bands." i smile back at him. luke and i don't know each other very well, but i assume that we've both heard a lot about each other. ashton talks about his "not complete" band all the time, asking me for opinions on the name (they once wanted to call it "bromance"), the songs they were writing, and the style of music (they were going for pop punk, but it was mostly pop with a little rock or punk here and there).

"and your other favorite band is 5 seconds of summer." he joked, laughing.

i cringe at the bad attempt at making a joke, but laugh along anyways.

"wait, what were you going to ask me earlier today?" i question him and a confused look appears on his face. he thinks for a second and then looks me in the eyes.

"oh, right, that! i was wondering if you wanted to come to the band auditions tomorrow. ashton wanted me to ask you because he obviously wouldn't see you in class and he forgot to ask until this morning. we have a lot of people that want to be our bass player so it should be interesting."

"sure, i'll go. where are they?" i inquire.

"they're just going to be at our apartment." luke smiles and i return the favor. i'm starting to see why ashton loves him so much. he's very sweet and obviously a wonderful friend to ashton. i think he has a girlfriend as well, and i'm looking forward to possibly meeting her tomorrow.

i was about to respond to luke when the door swings open. standing there is mr. parker with an annoyed look on his face. he sighs and walks to the front of the room like he's going to give a speech, but instead of giving us some long talk about why we're in here, he just rolls his eyes and says "it's friday. i have things to do, and i'm sure you do, too. just leave and no one will say anything, deal? have a nice weekend."

and with that, we left.
