Chapter 4

Griffin Valentine

I don't know what to do with her. She's beautiful. Her eyes, her skin, her hair, her lips, her curves. All of her is beautiful. She is the kind of untainted beauty the world has yet to sink its devouring teeth into. I want to kiss her and hold her and keep her as mine forever.

And yet all I know is her name.

It's a bit ironic how I have been so captured by a girl I just met. I haven't even known her for a full day and I already ache for her to be near. This is going to be harder than I thought.

I wonder what she's doing beyond that door? Is she going to open her closet?

“HOLY SHIT!!!” I heard her voice shout from inside her room.

“It appears she did.” I sighed. Just then as I sat on my bed she burst through the door and walked quickly to my own closet and threw the doors open.

“Unbelievable! Look at how big this is! It's like a whole other room!” She walked inside and looked around. I smiled and stood in the doorframe watching her. I like just watching how she moves, what she does, how she interacts with other things. I could stare at her forever. Then she stopped moving completely.

“What is it?” I asked concerned. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath then sighed it out.

“This room smells like you.” She said quietly. I don't know how to respond to that. “Its nice.” She sighed. I let out a breath and smiled.

“So you like the way I smell?” I'm highly amused with this girl. I can't hide it.

“Yes. Don't change a thing you are doing to smell like this. It is perfect and I could die right now in perfect bliss.” I laughed. I couldn't stop. She is so different from everyone in my world that I can hardly believe it.

“I am not perfect… You are.” I said with a smile. She blushed and turned to the side as she tucked some hair behind her left ear.

“You don't even know me.” She whispered.

“And I can't wait to.” I grabbed her hand and turned her to face me. “My beautiful Venice, even though we have been brought together in such an odd way I do believe that if we try we can be happy.” Her beautiful steel eyes gazed up at me with a look of curiosity. That confused me immensely.

“I suppose… for a while I mean.” She just had to add that last bit in at the end. I can tell she is a the-last-word-in person. A gong sounded throughout the house and made her jump.

“That's the call for dinner. Our cook Heather insists on doing that since the place is so big. I think she just enjoys annoying my father as much as I do.” I explained.

“Then let's go. I'm hungry!” Still holding my hand she skipped out of my room and down the hall. That was when she realized she had no idea where she was going and let me take the lead.

We sat beside each other at the large dining table with my fathers seat empty as usual. We didn't talk but the air wasn't awkward like I feared it would be. The door just had to open.

“Good to see you two! Now you must introduce her to me boy.” My father said with an irritating voice.

“Father this is Venice, Venice this is my father, Bradley Valentine.” I introduced them. I tapped her foot next to mine urging her to eat faster. It seems she got the hint as she sped up just slightly. Of course my father is reluctant to notice.

“Venice how old are you?” He asked.

“21.” She answered not looking at him. Her whole body stiffened up and she kept her eyes on her plate.

“Where did you live before?” She froze for some reason.

“Before what?” Her voice was low, almost threatening.

“Before here of course.” My father smiled at her.

“Nowhere.” She answered.

“Your parents? Where are they?”

“In the ground.” Everyone stopped. And yet she kept eating. Nothing slowed her down but that one question of where she was previously. Maybe she has a complicated past.

“I'm so sorry to hear that. If you don't mind me asking, how long?”

“Dad. Stop.” I interrupted.

“Its been awhile.” Another vague answer. My father just nodded like she told him everything.

“And what were you doing before coming here?” Her eyes looked up from her plate to his. She glared at him intensely. Then she got up and left.

“I told you to stop.” I scolded him then followed after her calling her name. She disappeared in the maze of halls quite skillfully.
