Chapter 12

Griffin Valentine

I was about to catch up to Venice as she was walking back when she turned around and just dropped. She fell to the ground right in front of me. I ran to her.

"Shit! V wake up! Venice open your eyes!" I yelled. I put my head to her chest and heard her heart beating softly.

I pulled out my cell phone and called for an ambulance. Then I called my dad and told him what happened and to meet me in the foyer. I picked her up and carried her there.

"What happened?" Arron asked running up to us.

"I don't know she just collapsed." I said panicky.

"It could be anything then. The ambulance should be here soon right?" My dad asked. I nodded and looked down at her worriedly. "Was she acting weirdly earlier today at all?"

"I don't know!" I feel like I should know this. I should have seen something.

"Griffin you spend the most time with her. Anything at all? Nothing seemed out of place?" My dad looked me in the eyes. I thought hard.

"I thought she felt warm earlier but I figured it was her run and then the shower so I brushed it off. She's been a little pail but I mean come on. She's a ginger so that's to be expected." I said slowly.

Finally the ambulance got here we all rushed off to the hospital. They took her away and we were left in the waiting room. Waiting...

"How did you do this dad?" I was leaned over in a chair with my head in my hands. I'm so worried. "How did you do this with mom? I'm so worried I might be sick and we aren't even really dating." I didn't notice I was shaking until he put his hand on my back.

"I know it may not seem like it at all time but I do care about you son." He says. I lean up and look him in the eyes. "This was the hardest part with your mother. The waiting. The hoping that she's fine. The not knowing and having no control. Your mother made it easy on me during the rougher parts toward the end. It was hard but as hard as this."

"Then what did you do to get past it?" I asked.

"I just sucked it up and told myself that I would be okay with whatever happens. Thankfully your mother beat the cancer she had and is still alive last I checked. But in that time of waiting I told myself that I would make it if she was dying and I would make if she wasn't. And that's what you need to do right now." He explained. I nodded and rubbed my face with my hands and sighed then sat back.

"Alright. I think I can do that." After about ten minutes of incisive foot tapping and staring at the clock then at the door the do the would come out of my dad finally something.

"Venice has been with us for about a month correct?" I nodded. "In that time I have watched the two of you. I've watched you two grow closer and interact everyday. I've seen you take a step forward and her take one back. I've seen it the other way around as well. And in this short amount of time I have never seen you more alive and more happy in your entire life. Venice way have only come here to railroad your crazy bother but you have made her existence mean so much more. We all have grown to love her in our own ways... but are you sure your feelings for her aren't something a bit more complex?"

I had never given it the thought. I was just going through each day happy to have her here. We haven't had much of a problem with sharing a room or getting along. We talk every night till late in the night, we eat each meal together daily, we watch tv and listen to music and she has even listened to me read my poetry a few times. I was happy to have her near. I never noticed any lingering feelings that have decided to stay.

I want her to stay.

Suddenly the doctor came out and found us. "Ms. Venice is awake and I have spoken to her. She's asking to see you."
