Chapter 5: Wingless Princess

"Hime-sama! Hime-sama! Moon Hime-sama!" Two maids flew around in a panic. They were searching for their princess who was supposed to be in her room right now to being prepped for a certain ceremony that would be held next week.

A certain red haired woman with a pair of pink wings appeared in front of them. The two maids stopped abruptly so as to not collide with each another. As for the red haired woman, she was surprised at the maids. Good thing they stopped before she was hit by them.

"What is wrong with you two!? Isn't it against the rules; flying that fast inside the palace? Where are your manners?" Furious with her underlings, she yelled at them.

"I'm sorry Garnet-sama, we were just in hurry to find Hime-sama. She was supposed to be in her room, fitting for her dress for the ceremony." Said the first maid.

"She also needs to do a proper cleansing. " Said the second maid.

The red haired woman released a soft sigh and then decided to search for the Princess herself, she had an inkling of where she may be, for she had been the one who raised the Princess in Her Majesty's stead. 

"You may go now, I'll find her."

"Yes ma'am."

Thus, the two of them flew back to the preparation room, leaving Garnet standing there in the hallway. She looked up, where white clouds floated in the sky. It had been 12 years since she had been appointed to be the Princess's personal maid. At first she had been a very obedient girl, but not long after her four brothers left her to go to an army training camp, she had started to rebel and always sneak out from the palace to go to the training camp to see them. Even after all these years, she still didn't have wings like The King had predicted.

Garnet walked to the palace garden, where colourful flowers bloomed beautifully. Big cherry trees grew at the end of the garden. She walked over, her expression calm as the cherry blossom petals cascaded down upon her. It was the most beautiful scene and place she had ever found in the palace. No wonder the princess liked it here , she chuckled.

"Come out Moon-hime, I know you are there." Even though she was only a maid, she also had a little bit of power to sense a person's presence.

"Which tree am I hiding in now? If you guess correctly then I'll come out, but if you are wrong then I'll be doing what I like for one whole day." The princess said cheerfully while hiding. She really loved to tease all the maids, Garnet included.

Garnet released a heavy sigh, she knew this would happen. This was the reason why she volunteered to search for the princess. If she let those two maids earlier look for her, it would take hours to guess where she was. She used the little power that she had to control the wind around her, and the petals that danced in front of her formed a tornado like wind. Then she moved her right hand and pointed to the tree where she sensed the presence of the Princess, and the wind blew in that direction.

"Aahh!!!"

A lady with long blond hair wearing a baby pink dress fell from the tree along with the now inanimate petals. She didn't have a pair of wings and so she couldn't stop herself from falling. She closed her eyes hoping someone would come and catch her.

She landed on something soft, and when she looked to the source of her landing, she saw that it was a red Phoenix. Her dear friend who always helped her to fly, as she, the Princess, was wingless.

Her face became cheerful when she saw her Phoenix. "Akatsuki, you saved me." She hugged the said Phoenix as if she was hugging a teddy. Then Akatsuki put her onto the ground. The cherry tree had been very tall after all.
