I See a Better Future

It turned out Alexei's arm needed stitches.

When Joyce entered Jim's room at the hospital, she immidiately fell into his arms.

"Oh, Hop." she said, sobbing from all the excitement.

Murray was already using a payphone to call the police and tell them about what had happened. He didn't mention Jim's vision though, just that Joyce and him had been lucky to be at the right place at the right time. Perhaps the police wouldn't be too thrilled with the way they had handled things, but that was a worry for another day. Tonight, they were all just happy to be alive.

"They're going to look for them." Murray said, as he stepped into Jim's room at the hospital.

"Thank God!" Joyce said.

"Thanks, Murray, but maybe we should just have dealt with this outselves." Jim said, sighing.

"You're not well, Jim." Murray said, and Joyce nodded.

"I feel better." Jim told them, as he ran his fingers up and down Joyce's bare arm.

"Could you give us a moment?" Jim asked, adressing Murray.

Murray nodded and left the room.

"Joyce... I've seen something."

"What?" she wanted to know.

He smiled.

"Good things."

"Yeah?" her smile grew bright and wide on her lips.

"I've seen a better future. For you and I. For our kids. For all of us."
"I'm glad." Joyce said, not knowing what else to say. It was enough.

Jim leaned in and kissed her softly on her lips. He looked deeply into her dark eyes.

"I love you, Joyce."

"And I love you, Jim." she said and kissed him back.

"There's something else." he said, hesitantly.

"What's that?" Joyce demanded.

He lay a hand on her stomach.

"In here."

A shocked expression appeared on Joyce's face.

"No?"

Jim only nodded.

"When?"

"You do the math." he said, laughing.

"But we... I mean I'm... I don't understand."

"It's alright, Joyce.. If you don't want..."

"I want to! But what about you?" she asked.

He looked at her with a loving expression in his bright eyes.

"I want it, too."

She smiled at him.

"But," he said, gently patting her belly, "there's something else."

"What? Is it bad?" she asked in alarm.

He chuckled.

"I don't know... It's just that in my vision, there's two of them."
