Leo looked up at the ceiling above him. Doctors buzzed around him like flies and many spoke too quickly to understand. He didn't know why he was in the hospital, but he was. The last thing he remembered was someone calling his name. Leo. That was his name. That's all he could remember. He sat up and looked around. The doctors had stopped buzzing. Cheers broke out across the room and people began to write furiously on their clipboards. Leo frowned as another name came to his head. Eva. He muttered the name. "Eva". That's when a familiar women burst into the room and ran up to the bed. "Leo! I'm so glad you're with us! They said you wouldn't wake up an-". "Who are you?" Leo asked bluntly. "I'm, I'm" that's when the women broke down in tears. "He doesn't even remember me!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. Leo muttered the name again. "Eva". The women looked up and said, "yes Leo?". Them the next three words came to his head "I love you". Eva broke into a smile and hugged Leo tightly. "You have been in a coma for two months" Eva said. "Your daughter is getting married" Eva said and looked deeply into Leo's eyes. "I-I have a daughter? That's great!". Leo said and smiled. Eva smiled even more at him. "I have to tell you something Leo, you saved the world, again..." Eva said slowly. "What?" Leo replied nervously. "You stopped a nuclear meltdown...". "I did what?!". "You saved us and everyone else...".
The memory of that time in the hospital flooded through my brain. That had been a month ago. Before the mission. Before we got sent into a criminal underworld. And before the world ended. Or so it seemed. Everything we owned had been confiscated. Our sanity was almost gone and our courage was long gone. I felt almost dead. We had been blackmailed. Straight before the mission had started, we had received a video of a hooded man threatening to kill my parents. He wanted us to steal a computer program from a warehouse and bring it to him. When we got there, we were captured by a couple of guys and bashed up. They had finally thrown us into a cell and given us some pain killers. Charlotte was sleeping on a small bunk on the other side of the room. The FBI didn't know where we were. They probably weren't even looking for us. I heard loud shouting suddenly. People ran past us with huge guns and scared expressions. Someone stopped by our cell and I grabbed his shirt through the bars. I slammed his head against the bars until he was dead and grabbed a key from around his neck. Charlotte woke up and seemed to understand that we were escaping. I grabbed a couple of weapons from the dead guy and unlocked the cell. Charlotte and I ran down a corridor and kicked down a door. The courtyard. This was where the guys had bashed the crap out of us. S.W.A.T teams were running into the base and shooting at everyone. Maybe the FBI hadn't forgotten about us. Charlotte grabbed a couple of pistols from a guy running past and I drew knives of my own. We ran into the crisp night air and took out any gang member we saw. A S.W.A.T saw us and ran up to us. "Finally! We have been looking for you two for ages! Get to the helicopter!" He said and pointed to somewhere behind the wall. A huge hole had been blasted in the wall by some sort of explosive, and S.W.A.Ts were swarming into the base through it. We ran through past some guys with blaring assault rifles and huge rocket launchers. "Everybody! Get down!" Someone shouted and we all dropped to the floor. Missiles hit the ground around us and sent dirt up everywhere. People screamed as shrapnel hit them and set fire to their clothes. One of the vans exploded and blood sprayed everywhere as people were ripped apart. The night was filled with screams of agony and gunfire. I pulled Charlotte to the helicopter and someone yelled "man those guns!". We ran to the ladders and climbed up to guns. I stretched my fingers, ready to fire the guns. The helicopter began to rise and the pilot yelled to everyone to be on high alert. We flew up into the air and my first target came into view. A power generator. I fired the gun at it and fire burst out of it. An explosion followed and people fell off the building. The pilots voice could be heard from where I was. "Good work! Yeah!". I fired at the sentry guns and blew them up one by one. Randomly, people exploded in showers of blood every now and then. I figured that was Charlotte. We flew directly over the building and we heard the pilots voice from the cockpit. "Alright kids. You're going home!". I heard Charlotte cheer from other gun and my mouth broke into a smile. She is the best friend and the best girlfriend a guy could ever have. I jumped down the ladder from the gun and went to speak with the pilot. Before I could talk to the pilot, Charlotte spun me around and threw her arms around me. "No more missions" She said and smiled at me. "Finally, a chance to be normal kids" I said. "You will never be normal Peter" Charlotte said. "You're too awesome". I smiled back at her and laughed. The helicopter traveled into the rising sun and warmth surrounded me. Charlotte and I chatted the whole way home.
The helicopter landed in my backyard and Charlotte pulled me out. I thanked the pilot and ran inside to my parents. "Welcome home!" Everyone shouted as we entered the room. I noticed that my sister and Jeremy were really dressed up. Rings glowed on their ring fingers. "Congratulations" Charlotte said to them. Jeremy pulled me into a hug and said "we haven't had much of a connection, but I want to change that, you're a really cool guy". "Thanks Jeremy" I said and pulled away from the hug. My dad was sitting in a chair at the other side of the room. "Son! Welcome!" He said and outstretched his arms. I embraced him warmly and thanked him for being there for me. Charlotte came up behind me and whispered something in my ear. "I have something for you" she said and pulled me away. We ran out the front door and I saw something truly awesome. A Lamborghini was sitting on the drive way. Charlotte handed me the keys and said "I love you". I kissed her and we got into the car. I hit start and revved the engined a bit. It roared and I smiled. This was going to be awesome.
We drove into the country and set up a picnic in a vineyard. This was amazing. "Guess what?" Charlotte said. "We're going to school tomorrow" she said excitedly. This was going to be a whole different experience, but I was ready. I had Charlotte at my side and a fire in my soul. I was ready for whatever life had for me. No matter what it was.
