Peter and Charlotte

The new mission

"So, you'll be taking out the base and destroying all of the research inside" the FBI head finished. "So, we need to plant the charges from inside and then blow it up. Why not just bomb the place?" I ask. "It would be too predictable, we would be shot out of the sky. They won't expect you to break in and manually blow it up". "Ok..whatever you say" Charlotte says and we head to the armoury. We get our suits and head to the helicopter. "One thing, I didn't mention this before, but the base is a huge plane" I hear the FBI director yell her the headset. Great. Time to skydive into something in the sky. Charlotte and I hold hands as we jump. The wind rushes through my hair and burns my skin. I open my eyes and tilt to the left. My parachute deploys and we drift safely into the plane. I grab my C4 charges and plant the first one. We kick down a door and plant the next C4 charge. A guard comes down the corridor, looking a bit bored. I crouch down and wait for him to get closer. I jump and the knife pierces the flesh of the guard. My hand is over his mouth so that he doesn't alert any other people. I let the body fall to the ground and run to plant the next charge. I approach a door that says "lab personnel only". I push it open and find darkness. I feel along the wall and hit a light switch. The lights come on with a soft buzz and reveal the horror of a lab. People in various stages of being cut up are lying everywhere. On tables, not the ground and even on shelves. Blood is everywhere. I throw up on the ground and throw a C4 charge into the room, already armed. It sticks onto the ground with a soft beep. I back out of the room slowly and find six guards attacking Charlotte. Time for a fight. I draw two knives and hold them with the blade flat against my wrist and lower arm. The blade twists in my hand and I pivot on my foot. My knife slices through the flesh of a guard's neck. The guard screams in pain and collapses. The other guards are taken by surprise and Charlotte uses that to her advantage. She ducks and kicks out a guards legs from under him. A bullet hits him and he groans before finally dying. I stab a guard through his upper back. My knife pierces the flesh and comes out the other side. Blood sprays all over the floor and I pull my knife out of the man. He slumps to the floor and a pool of blood forms around his body. Charlotte fires a few bullets into another couple of guards and I finish them off with my knife. We've still got five C4 charges to plant. I run down the rest of the corridor and plant a C4 charge. Charlotte kicks a door open and reveals a huge engine room. I plant the next C4 charge and run out. A guard patrol comes out of a metal door and yells at us. Charlotte provides cover fire while I run into another room to plant the next C4 charge. By the time I'm done. One guard remains from the patrol. I run up to him and stab a knife through his chest. Three more charges to go. We head to the metal door and find an access card in the lock. I swipe it down and the doorway beeps green. Three doorways stand before me. Charlotte grabs one of the charges and runs into one of the rooms. I run into the room marked armoury. I set up the C4 charge next to a box of explosives and run out. The sound of gunfire protrudes from the other room. I'm just about to walk in when I hear a loud beep. The C4 charges have started the countdown. I run to the last room and try to open the door. It's locked. I body slam it and it comes off the hinges. The last C4 charge is planted a few seconds later, and I run out the room. Charlotte runs out of the other room, drenched in sweat. "We need to get out of here!" I yell and grab her arm. We run out to the corridor and make our way to the hanger. Charlotte grabs two parachutes and throws one to me. The huge opening in the hanger starts beeping red. Huge doors start to close and I yell to Charlotte that we need to go faster. Charlotte yells back that she is stuck. Her parachute has deployed itself and she is tangled up in it. I draw a knife and slice the parachute open so she can get out. I grab her and tell her to hold on. My legs pump as I run for the exit. The doors start to close faster and I pick up a price of pipe off the ground. I throw it and the doors grind, trying to close but being blocked. The pipe begins bend and I make it to the exit. I leap out of the doors and the plane explodes behind me. The heat from the blast is painful but bearable. My shirt catches fire and I rip it off quickly. I deploy the parachute and drift safely to the ground. Charlotte cuts the strings off me and I start running. She runs after me, yelling into her headset. We run into some dense forest and twigs slap me in the face. I hear the sound of an engine coming towards us. Charlotte tackles me to the ground and we lay still. An SUV drives straight over us and shoots off through the trees. I get up and draw my guns. Soldiers approach us from every direction. I squeeze of some shots at the soldiers and hit a few. The bullets tear around us as the soldiers begin to fire their weapons. Charlotte pulls the pin on a smoke grenade and throws it down onto the ground. A small explosion sends white smoke billowing everywhere. I grab Charlotte's hand and pull her through the smoke to the trees. A helicopter zooms past overhead. "That wasn't friendly!" Charlotte yells and runs faster. A couple of SUVs zoom past us. There are machine guns mounted on top of the cars with soldiers in them. Bullets pepper the ground around us and start up a dust storm. Charlotte drags me to some trees and tells me to wait there. She charges at one of the SUVs. It slows down and turns around quickly. The gunner on top of the car fires at Charlotte. She dodges by constantly moving and leaps. Her feet hit the bonnet and she jumps onto the roof of the car, punches the gunner, throws him out of the vehicle, gets into the gun seat, and shoots at the Other SUV. I run at the SUV with Charlotte in it and leap at the wind screen. The driver flinches and I jump sideways. A kick the door on the driver's side, and pull it open. The driver stares at me in shock before I shoot him through the head and pull him out of the car. My foot goes to the brakes and I floor it. Charlotte jumps down off the roof and gets into the passenger seat. We shoot off into the forest, heading towards a location given to us by the pilot. Charlotte opens the door on her side and chucks a grenade at the SUV she had been shooting. The car explodes and screams can be heard. She slams the door shut and puts her seatbelt on. We hear a loud thunk and realise that there is someone on the roof. A blade appears above our heads and begins to cut a circle in the roof. We come out into a clearing and I realise that we are about to drive off a cliff. Charlotte nods at me and we both jump out of the car. The car zooms past and goes over the cliff. A very startled soldier looks at us and begins screaming. A helicopter touches down next to us and we run towards it. The door of the helicopter is thrown open and we run into the vehicle. I slam the door shut behind us and signal the pilot to take off. We strap ourselves into our seats and I let out a huge breath. Charlotte kisses me lightly and says. "We did well. I can't wait to see the director's when he finds out that we finished the mission. I laugh and kiss Charlotte again. My heart is still racing from that run. We had done some scary stuff before, but nothing like that. It dawned upon me that I actually had no problem with killing people. I don't shake or pass out, I just focus on the mission ahead of me. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it sure is helpful.
