The sun peeked through the blinds as I turned off my alarm. I groaned as I sat up, not looking forward to today. Today was my first day at my new school. Going from somewhere you lived at for the first 16 years of your life to a new place sucks. Mom's precious "acting career" takes her all over the place, but she decided on picking everything up and moving to Los Angeles. Saying I hated moving is an understatement. Moving from a small country town across the country to a huge city is not my ideal plan in life. Especially so close to the end of the school year.
I looked through my tower of boxes to find some decent looking clothing. I found some black leggings and a blue and black plaid shirt. I brushed my hair and teeth and looked at myself in the mirror. I really was miserable. I sighed and walked downstairs to the kitchen where I was greeted by my mother and little sister, Beverely.
"Good morning sweetie! Are you ready for your first day?" Mom smiled.
"As I'll ever be," I said under my breath as I slumped into a chair at the table.
"C'mon Ainsley, it's not going to be that bad!" Beverely said. Even though she was only 7 years old, she was extremely smart and mature for her age. I admired her optimism in everything, but I really didn't see the bright side of living here.
"I guess I can give it a shot," I faked a smile and I could tell Mom knew I wasn't that thrilled.
"I'm sure you'll love it here! There's many more opportunities here and you can make new friends! As soon as we get settled in, we will-" Mom's phone began to ring, "- I have to take this." She walks out of the room as I grab a banana and head out the door to my car.
I gave myself a pep talk the whole car ride to school. This is the first time I permanently moved somewhere, and I was extremely nervous. I parked my car in the student parking lot, turned off the car, and took a deep breath.
"You got this! Everything will be okay. There's nothing to worry about," I said to myself. I grabbed my purse and got out of the car. I looked up at the entrance where everyone was rushing to get in. I walked up quickly and hid in the large crowd of students. I found the office, got my schedule, and was escorted to my homeroom. Soon enough, the day was on its way.
The day flew by pretty quickly, and to be honest, it really wasn't all that bad. I made a few friends here and there, but there was this one girl that I clicked with immediately. Her name was Abby. We found out we had a lot in common. She moved here last year from across the country as well, so she knew exactly how I felt. We had most classes together, so she helped me out a lot. Maybe this isn't going to be as bad as I thought.
