Walking home that night, even though we were in pitch black darkness, I still felt like I was in the shadows. Lizzy's shadow to be more specific. It was always her that took the guy I wanted. Starting from the sixth grade, she had taken every single guy I have ever liked.
I was so angry at that moment. I was livid beyond measure. I wanted to pick up the pinecone on the side walk and chuck it at her stupid blonde head. Instead of fueling my anger, I turned and walked to my house. They wouldn't miss me anyway.
As I laid in bed last night, my skin still felt hot to the touch. I had never been angry with Lizzy about all the guys she stole, I knew she never did it on purpose. But tonight felt different, we went to that party for ME and Lizzy knew that. She knew I like Alex, and yet she stole him from right under me.
---------
That next morning I had a text from Alex, and a couple missed calls from Lizzy. Stupid bitch, I should just ignore anything she has to say to me. She was a back stabbing, lying little-
My phone was ringing again. Maybe I should just tell this to her instead of ranting in my head.
"Hello." I said adding a cut to my voice, so she would know how upset I was.
"Wow, did you just wake up?" She said "Never mind, what the hell happened last night?" She practically hissed. "Excuse me? I was about to ask you the same thing!" Who the hell does she think she is?
"You bailed on us last night! I was going to ask Alex to walk you home after my house, you know so you could have some alone time." I could hear the suggestiveness in her voice. Wait, what? She was trying to help me?
"It only seemed like he wanted to walk you home last night, not me." I realized I was sounding dramatic, I mean we only just met the guy.
"So what? I was just trying to help you! He texted and invited us to a bonfire at his house tonight. So get your sorry butt up and look cute. I'll see you at 7." She said in her bossy tone that sounded extremely annoying this morning. She hung up, and I looked down at my phone. I had a text from Alex too.
"I'm having a bonfire tonight, want to come?" I smiled to myself, of course I want to come! That sounded dirtier than I meant for it.
"Sure, what time?" I tried to sound as casual as possibly, so he didn't know how badly I wanted to see him again. He was even in my dream last night!
I got up and got ready for my day. The anxious bubble in my chest was back again as I looked at myself in the mirror. She had everything I didn't, perfect blonde hair, the body, and now the guy. What I would give just to look like her.
"7, I'll see you there (:" My stomach dropped, but not in a bad way. I could feel my body heat up, and I had this weird urge that I couldn't quite place.
--------
At around 6:50 Lizzy showed up at my door. She had one a tight pair of jean shorts and a plain white t-shirt. I happened to be wearing the exact same thing. The only difference was our hair. Hers was dead straight and I had mine in loose curls.
The bubble in my chest grew with each step towards Alex's house. When we got there he was carrying a pile of wood, which I assume was for the fire.
We followed him into his back yard where the fire was already ablaze. He had a table full of different alcohol and red solo cups. I picked up a cup when a girl with light red hair popped up from the back of the table. She had soft green eyes but she seemed anything but soft. I knew her name was Meadow and that she was cousins with Alex but that was about it. Before you think that it's extremely weird that I know they're cousins, let me explain. Her mom was friends with mine, and they lived next door to Ethan.
"Can I make you something?" She offered. Shit, I don't know what anythings called.
"Whatever your having." I said with a crooked smile. I probably shouldn't be drinking alcohol, but anything that could possibly help the giant bubble in my chest I would take gratefully.
I took the drink from her, and about 20 minutes in she had made me about 4 drinks. I was wobbly and silly. But the good news was I felt nothing in my chest anymore. Just a fast heart beat. That seemed to pick up as I looked at Alex sitting across from me over the fire.
His blonde hair was a moppy mess on the top of his head. I could see the fire in his bright blue eyes. He was wearing a blue tank top and his collar bones looked so good. Wow that was a weird thought.
"You're collar bones look really good." I guess I said it anyway. But man look at those collar bones, they were so sharp, I just wanted to reach out and touch one of them.
"Oh, uhm thank you." He sounded weird but I could tell by the smile on his face he took it as a real compliment
He got up to get more fire wood. Lizzy gave me a weird look, but I just returned it with a big toothy grin. At this very moment I was feeling on top of the world. Like I could do absolutely anything I wanted to do.
When Alex dropped the wood from his arms into the fire I could see blood dripping from his finger. I stood up quickly and grabbed his hand. I looked up into his eyes and just stared for a minute.
"Did you cut it on your jaw line?" I asked sweetly. I saw a smirk rise onto his face and I knew he was amused.
"I thought it was my collar bones that were nice." He said raising his eyebrow in question.
I looked him up and down, "I'm pretty sure its all of you that's nice." Holy shit! Did I just say that? Maybe I did drink to much. His smile grew wider, this time I had him. All of his attention was on me. He started to lower his head to mine and then whispered in my ear, "All of you looks nice too." When he pulled away I saw a smirk playing at his lips.
Oh sweet Jesus, what is happening to me?
At that moment, a scene from Clueless came into my head. And I had the best idea.
"Who wants to play suck and blow?" I practically shouted. I walked over to a large tree that was in his yard and picked up a leaf about the size of my hand.
"What's that for?" Alex asked with a look that was so cute, I just wanted to kiss his face. "So you put the leaf over you mouth," I said placing it over my mouth sucking in, then let it drop back into my hand. "Then you suck it off my mouth." I said walking over to Alex almost coming chest to chest with him. "Ready?" I said, now with a smirk on my lips.
I began sucking on the leaf and waited for Alex to continue with the game. He looked nervous, wow the blonde goddess is actually nervous right now, cute. He took a step closer and lowered his head and tilted just slightly to the left. He started to suck but the leaf didn't come with him. When he pulled away he went to lean back in but the leaf fell. When he was just almost touching my lips he stopped himself. He looked me in the eyes, I felt like a puddle.
"Alexander, it's 11 o'clock, yet your ass in here now!" I heard a man yell. We all turned and looked at the deck where his dad was standing in a white t-shirt and pajama pants on.
He looked at us sadly and then began walking into his house.
"Do you want me to walk with you guys home?" Meadow asked. I can't go home like this, I'm still feeling my buzz.
"Actually can I just stay with you?" I asked. "Sure thing, Lizzy you too?" She asked pointing to an extremely quit Lizzy. Which was kind of weird considering I saw her take a few drinks herself. Maybe we switch personalities when were drunk. "Yeah." Was her short reply.
When I was in a blanket made bed that night I fell asleep with a blonde boy on my mind, and on my lips.
