It was crazy how just a little bit of attention could make me feel on top of the world. Once Alex made the suggestion of playing truth or dare, the party split off into different groups, leaving Alex and I alone. We had started talking for only a few minutes when we had moved to the trampoline. I was laughing and smiling like an idiot at all the things he would say to me. He had asked me what my name was, and told me he thought 'May' was the prettiest name he's ever heard.
We were sitting Indian style across from each other when he started to lean in. When our faces were only just inches apart, Izzy open the flap to the tramp and jumped in, nearly landing on Alex in the process.
"Everyone out there is so boring!" She whined, "What are you to up to in here?" She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively at us.
"We're not doing anything." Alex said quickly, to quickly if you ask me.
"Great, then lets get out of here and do something a little more fun." She looked at me and smirked.
Oh God, this couldn't be good.
"I know just the thing." Alex's bright blue eyes darkened at his words, and the look on his face would've dropped me to my knees if I wasn't already sitting.
Alex jumped off first and offered his hand to me as I tried to get down, offering me a sweet smile. He walked towards Ethan and said something to him that I couldn't hear. Ethan looked to me and gave me a sad smile. I probably should feel bad about ditching out of his party earlier but at that moment all I could think about was where Alex was going to take me.
We only walked about two houses down before we ended up at his house. Alex checked the garage to make sure no one was home and then lead us in the door.
"Are you ladies more of a vodka type or tequila?" He asked from the kitchen.
I opened my mouth to reply, but I honestly had no idea what to say, I had never tried either.
"I'll take a shot of whatever you're having." Izzy said sweetly, like sugar was dripping from her lips. She took off her loose jacket and started to head towards the kitchen.
"Perfect." Alex said. His eyelids lowered and I could see the bright blue darken once more.
"I'll take one too." I squeaked. I didn't like where this was heading. I've never had alcohol before, and the way Alex and Lizzy were looking at each other did not sit right with me.
Alex poured us all a shot and handed them out carefully. I took mine and looked at the group hesitantly. As soon as he handed Lizzy her drink she dropped her head back in one swift motion and the clear liquid was gone. She had a sour look on her face for only a second and then had a large grin. I looked down and my cup and tried to mimic what she had done.
My nose and throat were burning at the taste. I tried to hold in the cough that was rising at my throat which only made my eyes water. I looked at Alex but he had only seemed to be looking at Izzy.
Right then Lizzy's phone buzzed and her face turned pale. No doubt it was her mother calling.
"Hello?" Izzy said in a sweet and innocent voice, while walking out of the room.
Alex turned to me and said six words that almost made my knees give out right there, "Do you wanna see my room?"
He grabbed my hand and led me through the kitchen and into a long hallway. Once we reached the door he let go of my hand and walked in. His walls were orange with green strips along one wall. He had a king size bed in one corner and a couch in the other. He also had a huge tv at the foot of his bed.
He sat down on the bed and motioned for me to come over. My knees shook as I walked towards him. When I got to the bed I sat down inches away from him, which he almost immediately filled by moving closer. He started to lean in and in that moment I thought he was going to kiss me. I could hear my breath catch in my throat and my stomach had more butterflies than I knew possible.
But what happened wasn't anything close to what I had imagined.
"Does Izzy have a boyfriend? Because I really like her and she's so hot." He whispered.
Yeah, not what I was hoping for either. In the words of Cady Heron, "It felt like my stomach had dropped out of my butt."
"Uh-mm, no she's single." I said with a stretch in my voice. At that moment I think the vodka caught up to me and I felt like I might just throw up on Alex right there.
"Great," he said with a large smile on his lips. God I wanted to kiss those lips, and run my hand through his blonde hair. I would give anything to just reach over and-
"May? Are you okay?" Alex asked running his hand in front of my face.
Shit I zoned out, imagining laying him down right here on this bed.
"Yeah, sorry." I started, but then Izzy walked into the room.
"May, my moms wants me home right now. Can you walk with me?" She said, seeming extremely annoyed. You're not the only one girl.
"I can walk you guys home." Alex said jumping to his feet.
