One fatefull saturday Grace and I were watchimg cartoons when we stumbled upon the very first episode of Pokemon. We were inwarped at the concept of a young boy traveling on his own with a tiny electric mouse like creature at just the age of ten.

The show was amazing as each episode featured Ash and company on a new adventure that always allowed the hero to look just like that, a hero. Grace and I use to explore the woods pertending it was routes on the show as we would use our imaginations to conjure up pokeballs to catch our team for battle.

She espically loved Pikachu who was Ash's electric mouse and best friend that I mentioned before. Grace felt that she was unbeatable and the greatest pokemon master to ever live. Unfortunatly for her I was much better.

Not long after the release of the show, Nintendo teamed up with the original gameboy group to create the first generation of pokemon games. The yellow version featured the loveable pikachu so thats the one grace chose. I picked the red version which focused on the powerful fire dragon known as Charizard. There was also a blue version who empthasized Blastoise the mighty hydro-cannon weilding water turtle.

It was next to impossible to seperate us from our game as we would use our link cables to trade and battle our pokemon.

"Lee my Pikachu will destroy your little fire breathing lizard!" Grace laughed as she mocked me.

"Charizard is a dragon! He is like eight millon times stronger than that lightning rodent you got" I mocked back with fustration.

"Your love of dragons is exactly why I cant lose this battle dummy."

"What?! How is that?!" I barked back now puzzled at her claim.

She smiled real big and said, "Pay attention now kid," I was older than her so she knew that made me mad. "Your team is mainly dragon-type pokemon which are related to flying types."

"So your point? My dragons are big powerful and hard to beat!" My confidence sored higher.

"Right, and they're also weak agianst electric and ice types. You're at a major disadvantage."

"Ahhhhhhhhh!" I exclaimed realizing she was right.

Grace demolished me needless to say and it was back to the drawing board. I figured she would begin changing her team up but wouldnt stray to far off of her beloved Pikachu.

"Train all you want Lee but I've found a pokemon garunteed to bring me another win!"

"Hmph" I snourted back, "Oh yeah like what? Im using Snorlax, Pigeot, Kangaskan, Hitmonlee, Muk, and of course my Charizard. My team is awesome."

With the most adorable smile and laugh she replied, "Im using my Starmie, Arcanie, Porygon, Alakazam, Pikachu, and my secret weapon."

"Im not scared at all. You are going down this time!"

The battle began with both of us using all we could to defeat the other. After much battling I was left with just my Charizard and had beaten her Pikachu.

"Well Im waiting!" I boasted feeling as though she was bluffing about her final pokemon. "Where is this secret weapon you were bragging about?"

She looked me in the eyes blushing, but with a cool seriousness. "Lee I raised this pokemon to be the strongest. It started off weak but grew into a powerful force and you dont stand a chance. Ive taken a page outta your book with this choice. Dragonite! I choose you!"

"Dra-dra-dragon what?" I never heard of this pokemon. Who was this creature and was it as almighty as she claimed?

She chose her pokemon and then it emerged. It was a big yellow dragon with sea-blue eyes. Its two antenna like horns and cuddly imagine made him less of a feared monster than anticipated.

"Thats a sad excuse for a dragon Grace. You really think that little beast can defeat me?"

She became softer in the eyes. She spoke ever so gently, beamimg with confidence. "Dragonite use hydro pump!"

"Not possible!!!" I gasped in shock. "A dragon cant use a water based attack can it?"

The attack went as planned, dealing a decent amount of damage to my Charizard. I struck back only to find my attack barely dented her Dragonite.

She giggled knowing I was figuring out I was outmatched. "Dragonite use Ice Beam!"

Another super effective blow hit me and agian I wad astonished that a dragon could use an attack he is weak agianst.

"Ive lost....Finish it Grace" I dropped my head in a sorrowful way knowing I was going to lose the battle.

"Sorry Lee," she joked. "Dragonite finsh this with Thunderbolt!"

The battle concluded with Grace as the victor. I cut my game off and scooted in close gently relaxing my head into hers.

"Grace I have to tell you something and Im scared to." I whimpered

She grabbed me and pulled me close. We may've just been first graders but we knew what it felt like to be closed and loved by one another.

"You can tell me all your secrets silly. Are you still mad about me kicking your butt?"

"No..." I paused tearing up. "My parents said we are moving and I wont be able to see you as much. We can still spend weekends together, but Im changing schools."

Grace's beautiful eyes dropped in disappointment at the news she just heard but tried forcing a smile.

"Well now I cant go hiding with you during recess, but at least we can still see each other."

I wipes my eyes glad she wasnt mad at me. "Yeah dont replace me okay Grace? You gotta promise Im going to be your only best friend."

"Okay Lee. I promise."

In that moment we embraced in a hug that reassured me everything was okay. She kissed my cheek and I blushed with embarrasment was really relieved now.
