All of us sat around the living room together, unsure of what we were going to do next. We did not know how long this storm was going to rage on for and we did not know how long we would be confined to this house because of it. Trying to take our mind off things, the kids brought out a board game to play amongst themselves as the adults sat and talked about the more serious stuff. For a second, we forgot that we were in the midst of one of the biggest tragedies that we would ever experience. We each waited eagerly for our turn to roll the dice and play.

I pictured myself in my dining room, a monopoly board occupying most of the table. Each of my family members gathered around the game, smiling and laughing as we each took a turn to move our pieces, seeing who would land on the best property first. I smiled to myself, the memory quickly fading as my friend tapped me, indicating that it was my turn to go.

The excitement was short lived when a gust of wind came, shaking the whole house and bringing us back into a state of terror. The game eventually came to an end and we resumed our spots on the living room floor, with only our thoughts to entertain us.
