“Wait, you two know each other?” The green eyed men asked and the two of us nodded, not sure what to made of the situation. I felt like my world had been turned upside down in a matter of days; it was as though my journey to find Katerina had somehow triggered a series of events that led my past back to me. It’s as though the world was telling me that I was meant to do this like the prophecy had foretold.
“We were in the same school.” Viktor responded after it was clear that I wasn’t going to say anything, though his eyes still locked to my face as he talked to his friends.
“She’s the girl you…” The only female in the group started excitedly before stopping mid-sentence as Viktor shot her a glare. She had short, preppy auburn hair in a pixie cut and warm brown eyes that were now eyeing me with interest. What did she wanted to say?
“They said you got a scholarship to the School of Medicine and Science,” Viktor started, taking a step forward to address me properly and I was taken aback by the intensity in his eyes. “You just disappeared after the attack and when I joined the school there was no record of you whatsoever. It was like you just vanished into thin air.”
Casey was now throwing me looks and I knew she was wondering what happened between Viktor and I; the truth was nothing. His memories was altered after the incident, Nigel had told me that and we had never really crossed path before then. That’s why I could not make sense of why he had been trying to find me. Unless…
“You remember?” I asked vaguely, hoping to receive a clueless answer. Instead my suspicion was met when Viktor gave me an incredulous look.
“Of course I do!” He raised his hands to emphasis the point and I could feel the wide eye look from Casey as she had obviously thought about this in a completely different direction. “You saved our lives, you saved my life. I would have been dead if it wasn’t for you and you think that I would just drop the issue when you disappeared?”
“You are not meant to remember.” I said, a little embarrassed from his outburst. What happened then had more to do with a split second decision than my bravery to save everyone and it was fluttering to know that Viktor had taken this so seriously. However the real question to me remained as to how he managed to retain that information. I had written to Lizzie and she didn’t have any memories of the event. She thought we had escaped into the manhole just in time.
“Why do you keep saying that?” Viktor threw his hands up again, agitated. “Why can’t you just answer my questions?”
Crooking my head to one side I pondered over our situation. None of us were familiar with this level of technology and whilst we could probably overwhelm them by force who’s to say they didn’t have some kind of secret controller that would disable the plane or at least mess with it. Peering at Viktor’s face I knew that this had been bothering him for a long time, most likely for the past three years and the least I could give him was so kind of explanation. A half-truth.
“I will answer your questions if you answer mine first.” I compromised, which seemed to pacify him. “And that we will all sit down and talk civilly.”
Viktor’s glance flickered over the guy who first spoke which solidified my assumption that he was the one in charge. Giving me a calculating glance the man crossed his arms over his chest and nodded and I sighed inside. I would hate to see this all come down to a fight. Especially three thousand feet above ground.
“After you have fainted we were immediately surrounded by a group of military.” Viktor started and I nodded; this part I did know. “I was so exhausted I lost consciousness too and when I woke up I was at the hospital with this strange man sitting next to me.”
