Casualty Ruby and Archie

Ruby

Harmony had been up all night wailing, although she loved the little thing, Ruby did wish sometimes that she would go to sleep, Harmony didn't seem to realise that she had a job that required her getting a good nights sleep.Luckily Faith was taking her today and tonight as it was her day off. She and Lev were the perfect couple and Ruby knew that her tiny niece would be safe with her; she got dressed and drove to the house before her shift started in half an hour. She drove to Holby and changed into her beloved paramedics uniform then closed her eyes for a moment until the shift started. She awoke to Lev shaking her shoulders "Ruby wake up shift's starting" Lev said in his heavy Bulgarian accent , while Jan laughed silently in the corner. Ruby gave her the death glare and hopped in the Ambulance, and they started their rounds of the Holby area she and Lev chatted about babies and how they were very unpredictable. Lev had just told a very funny joke about Harmony and her not being in Harmony with her sleep schedule, when the radio  crackled into life "3006 to control, we have an elderly man fallen in his home his carer is with him" the dispatcher said and gave them the address, Ruby keyed it in and headed to the location.

When they arrived the 80 year old man was looking very unwell, and was lying against the musty sofa, the carer interrupted Ruby when she tried to ask the Man what happened "he tripped over the carpet, didn't you uncle Sam" the male carer said. "Oh he's your uncle?" Ruby asked not liking the man's tone, "yeah, I'm the only family he has right Sam" he said in a sing song voice as the old man nods weakly from behind the oxygen mask. The man who Ruby had learned was Josef, began telling them how he had single handedly saved his uncle and called the ambulance, Ruby pretended to be very impressed but a lot of Sam's injuries didn't match up with Josef's story. They loaded Sam into the ambulance and blue-lighted to Holby. When they arrived, Josef insisted on staying with his uncle the entire way through unloading and held his arm a little too tightly while Ruby explained to Archie what was wrong with the man.

Ruby motioned Archie that she needed to talk to her outside "I'll be back in just a minute" Archie said to the two men and followed Ruby into the main reception "what's up Ruby??" Archie asked   "I think we might have a case of carer abuse, some of his story doesn't match up with the injuries his uncle has and he's very keen to keep Sam quiet" the blonde paramedic says. Archie nods trusting Ruby's observation after the mystery of Anna the blind woman who came into the E.D a week earlier. "I'll keep an eye on it, thanks Ruby" Archie says 

An hour later when Ruby was on her lunch break Archie came up to her  "Hey Red, I think you were right about the abuse Josef hasn't left Sam's side and he does all the talking; Sam looks terrified, I need to talk to Sam by himself but he won't leave, Lev mentioned he was trying to impress you, maybe you could distract him".

 Ruby nodded knowing what Archie was implying and she went into the room "hey Josef, I was sooo impressed by your heroic actions, maybe we could grab a coffee, since it's my lunch break" Ruby said in her best impression of a teenage girl. His eyes lit up and hurried after Ruby to the canteen Ruby chose a seat so she could see into resus where Archie was talking to Sam but where Josef couldn't. She pretended to flirt with him keeping him occupied while Archie tried to get Sam to tell her What was going on. About half an hour passed and Josef clearly wanted to get back to his Uncle but Ruby just kept distracting him. When she seen the police she was relieved but she also knew she had to keep him talking "I really should get back to my uncle" Josef said "but you haven't even given me your number" she said desperately as she could see the police officers finishing up. I don't have a pen" he said smiling charmingly at her .Ruby thought he looked like a horrible fish  "there's ones up at the counter" she replied pointing to the canteen counter. 

He stood up and went over just as the police came looking for him; Ruby pointed to Josef. They nodded and went over to him "Josef Harlot I'm arresting you on suspicion of the abuse of Mr.Sam Harlot" he said. Josef struggled and tried to escape but the police officer handcuffed him and led him out to the police car. Ruby sighed a breath of relief as Doctor. Hudson sat next to her "didn't you like him I thought you were getting on quite well" Archie teased, Ruby laughed "Not really my type Archie".                                                                                                                                 "Seriously though thank you for doing that, it cant've been easy,Sam said his Nephew's been abusing him for the past 2 years" Archie said.                                                                                                 "Christ" Ruby swore shaking her head at the evils she had seen in this job. "I hoped I could repay you by helping you with Harmony just while Faith and Lev recover from their ordeal"she smiled

"I'd like that" Ruby replied happily writing down her number for the brown-eyed girl                         'she has the most beautiful smile' she thought as Archie returned to work.
