Him

I watched her walk away. For a moment, I just stood, shocked. I let it sink in. Had that really just happened? Had I really just seen my mate after thinking she was dead for three years? I leaned against the wall near me and took in a deep breath. It felt too good to be true.

What are you standing around for? My wolf suddenly said in my head. Follow her! We can't lose her again!

I felt him trying to take control over me, trying to get me to move my feet to follow Everly. He was absolutely frantic. He was right. What was I doing?

I started to move, jogging around the corner to the street where I saw Everly cross. I spotted her green coat a little ways ahead of me. She was running to catch her bus.

We need to shift! I can run after her! My wolf yelled in my head.

I shook my head. There was no way I was going to shift and chase after a bus. That would bring too much attention. I would have to run to go get my car and follow her that way.

I started sprinting to my car. I was extremely glad that there were no humans around. Even in human form, I was extremely fast when I ran at full speed.

When I got to my car, I immediately started driving in the direction that I knew the bus went. For a few minutes, I couldn't find the bus. I began to panic. Had I lost it? Had I lost her? But I finally turned on to a street where, a few cars ahead of me, there was the bus. Now I just had to hope that it the bus that Everly was on.

I followed it for about twenty minutes, watching as people got off at different stops, keeping an eye out for Everly. I wasn't sure what I would do if Everly wasn't on the bus. I began to get nervous. My wolf would probably kill me.

But then, finally, the bus stopped and Everly got off. I let out a sigh of relief. Thank God. I quickly pulled my car over and watched her. She began walking. I put the hood of my sweatshirt on and got out of my car to follow her, making sure to stay a good distance behind her so that she wouldn't notice me.

Wow, I would make an incredible stalker.

We walked for about ten more minutes, slowly getting further and further away from the city. Where was she going? Did she live over here? This was really far away from the coffee shop that she worked at.

Everly turned down a street that brought her to what looked to be a long driveway. The building that it led was large but welcoming. Where was she going? What was this place?

I stayed behind as I watched her enter the building. After a few minutes, I quickly followed behind.

I immediately looked for Everly when I was inside but didn't see her anywhere. She must've gone somewhere in the building. I looked around. It looked like I was in a hospital. There was a waiting room next to me and a front desk with a woman doing paperwork behind it.

My heart started to beat faster. Why was Everly in the hospital? Was she hurt?

I walked over to the nearest doors and tried to push them open but they were locked.

"Um, excuse me, sir. You can't go in that way. We keep those doors locked for our patients' safety." I heard a voice say. "Can I help you with anything?" I turned my head to look at the lady sitting behind the front desk. She was older with brown hair and a kind smile. The name on the desk said Deborah. I walked over to her.

"Um, yes, actually. I'm here to visit someone," I lied. "Her name is Everly."

Deborah nodded and looked at her computer. "Visiting hours are over in about ten minutes, but I think I can let it slide." She winked at me. "Let's see... Everly..." She said, looking for the name. She tilted her head to the side. "I actually don't see anyone under the name Everly. What's a last name for her?"
