I was always smiling. That was just what made me, well that's what everyone thought anyway. Basically I was shoved to the background all of the time. People were so focused on Lisa, Martha, Ruth, Alice, Sarah, and Dorkus to even notice my bright smile and my curly pigtail ponytails. No one ever courted me, well to be fair I looked and acted a lot younger then even Alice who was 18. My bright smile and my hairstyle made appear to be around 12 when really I am 16. My name is Lilly Ann and someday I want my name to be known.
"Lilly Ann!" My mother exclaimed, "Come on we gotta get going into town I don't want to make breakfast today!"
I laughed a little to myself. I knew that wasn't the only reason for her going to town. In reality she really wanted to get caught up on the latest gossip. That was Ma for ya. She loved knowing everything that went on.
I looked at myself in the mirror one last time before I came to my mother's calls My bright red dress was a bit obnoxious, so I added a flowery apron and buckled my brown heels. Clicking them twice I smilled and spun on heel to follow my mother out the door. I looked back at our house. It was a simple small two bedroom house with white walls and a white picket fence. The grass was a rich green that was shining in the sun. Unfortunately there were orange and brown leaves scattered everywhere.
"is that really what your wearing to breakfast?" Ma questioned.
"Yes ma," I stated. It was my favorite dress and I wouldn't let her tell me that it was bad.
"Okay," she sighed and muttered something about how I needed to be more proper.
I smiled at her, "Come on Ma stop worrying. I look just like the Lisa, and all them, well except my pigtails of course." I twirled my pigtail, touched my white bows, and continued smiling.
"That's what I'm afraid of those girls are awful ditzy hun," she sighed with a concerned look in her eyes.
"Mama!" I exclaimed with shocked expression.
"Well it's true!" she stated stubbornly.
"All the boy's like them though Mama," I said with a sad look in my eyes.
"Now, now they will like you too; be patient hun, now lets go," Ma said.
I sighed and followed her down the street. She just didn't understand. Those girls were beautiful and I wasn't. In order to look even a little descent I had to look like a little girl. At least my best friend Mary Loo understood.
We walked into town and I looked around. I may be in an unfortunate positon, but that didn't make the world any less beautiful, so I smiled my big toothy grin and walked with a skip in my step. The streets were clean and the town was beautifully painted with bright colors. The birds were singing and there wasn't a cloud in sight. I noticed little children drawing in the street.
"That looks mighty pretty. I sure wish I could draw like you." I said kneeling down and smiling at them.
"Thank-a Lilly!" they smiled and giggled.
I skipped past them and continued admiring the town. Everything was just always so bright and wonderful around here. I never wanted to leave.
We came up to the town cafe and walked in. Almost all the tables were full like always and there were flowers on each table making it very inviting. The colors were mostly brown, but they actually worked in this case. The food was to die for, and Milly, one of the waitresses, was incredibly sweet. I absolutely loved her.
