"Will you be back in time?" I asked him.
He flashes his plane ticket into the camera. I sat alone in Jack's apartment as I FaceTimed him. He put school on hold to kickoff his music career with Jack Johnson but had me move in before things began to take off.
Life had happened so fast. All they had to do was put a few videos online and before they knew it, they had millions of views and climbing subscribers. Right now they were in New York City recording a few tracks for an EP and also on the search for a manager.
"I'll be there, babe. I wouldn't miss it for the world," he replied.
"We don't even know what we're gonna do," I said.
"Well, I know what I'm gonna do."
"Oh yeah? What's that?"
"You." A smirk comes across his face and I blush uncontrollably. I needed him here so bad.
It's been getting hard to concentrate in school. I'm even surprised I made it to my sophomore year of college. Matt transferred to my school ever since his original school fell under new regime. He said it wasn't helping him grow as an actor. So now he's been taking theater courses at my school. I still barely see him.
Life's just been a routine of waking up, do some crunches, go to class, study, shower, eat, video chat with Jack, then sleep. I have to admit, it's been getting tiring.
. . .
It's the day of our official one year anniversary and I'm waiting in the airport by the arrival gate along with countless others waiting to see their loved ones. His flight was only delayed about 30 minutes but I waited, luckily finding a nearby Dunkin Donuts.
People started to come out the gate and I quickly stood up from my seat, dusting any crumbs off my lap. It was as if the crowd parted like the red sea because there he was, the love of my life, with a huge smile on his face, looking so cute in his beanie. He was holding a bouquet of roses but then handed them to Johnson; he knew what I was about to do, he saw it in my face, how elated I was. I ran and jumped into his arms. He dropped his bag and picked me up as I wrapped my legs around him. His arms gripped around me so tight and he spun me around.
"Damn I missed you, babygirl," he spoke.
I kissed him. Everything he needed to know was right in that kiss.
. . .
Jack's POV
Kissing her tasted like raspberries. I kind of put 2 & 2 together once I saw the nearby Dunkin Donuts. She loves those jelly donuts. I didn't mind it. I couldn't and didn't want to let her go but eventually I had to because we had to head to baggage claim. Johnson handed her the roses I bought for her, giving her a hug too.
It's crazy to believe it's been a year already. We never really reached common ground on what exactly makes the year. I count it from the day we first kissed (in that case, well over a year). She counts it from the day we started fresh, the day we 'figured it out'. I let her have it.
We got an Uber to take us home. Johnson was playing on his phone, occasionally shaking his head at our intense makeout session. I swear I'm gonna find him a girl. Probably a blonde, so they can match. But he has no idea how much I missed this girl.
We finally get through the front door and I'm ready to ravage her. I point toward the bedroom.
"You better get in there," I demanded without keeping a straight face.
She tested me, not doing what I asked of her. So I tickled her, causing her to laugh loudly. I playfully chased her into the bedroom. She turned around, running straight into my arms, giving me this amazing feeling in my chest. I felt regenerated, re-energized, even after that long flight. She was my medicine.
"You sure are taking your sweet time," she smiled.
"Well you see," I cleared my throat. "It's only because I'm having a problem with the thought that we either have forever or we don't have time that's promised. So..."
I gently laid her down onto the bed, crawling on top with my forehead against hers. She had on my favorite floral perfume of hers.
"I'm not sure if I should be gentle, slow & steady...or if I should ravage you."
"Well, you've been away. How do you feel you should approach me after all that time?"
A slight grin came across my face. I backed up and stood before her, holding my hand out for her to join me. She took my hand and I pulled her up against me. With one hand on her lower back and the other intertwined with her fingers, I hummed a slow tune that had been lingering in my head. Perhaps it was an old John Mayer song or something this local band played in Manhattan. Either way, she liked it. I swayed with her, slowly spun her, dipped her -- my hand caressed her back until it came up to her neck & I kissed her like the delicate angel she is.
"I could ravage you any day," I told her. "But today I just wanna...I don't know."
"Tell me," she urged. "You can't be shy with me anymore."
"Don't laugh but...I just wanna adore you today. Take my time and explore every curve I might have missed."
She pulled back to look up at me, smiling as her fingers ran through my hair. I tugged down on the zipper on the side of her dress, slowly letting it fall down. Her skin was warm & supple, just for me.
