Jack's POV

"How long have I been out of it, though? You look older," she spoke.

At this moment, I had the most unsettling feeling. "You don't know who I am, exactly?"

She squinted her eyes, thinking. "Uh...Jacob?"

"Jack. Jack Gilinsky."

She nodded. "That's right, Jack. But again, why am I here? Why is Jack Johnson in here? We haven't even hung out since we were kids. This has to be a dream or something"

She was innocent with her statements. She had absolutely no idea about anything. I looked over at Johnson and he shook his head. He quickly walked out of the room, shouting for a nurse.

I figured maybe I was having some kind of a bad nightmare. If she could barely remember me, then she doesn't remember our relationship or any of our memories. Johnson returned with the doctor.

"Can you tell me your name?" The doctor asked, flashing the tiny flashlight at her pupils.

"Lauren Turner. Can you tell me what's going on?"

"What are the names of your parents?"

"Gerald and Caroline Turner." Lauren was beginning to look frightened now.

"And do you know these boys?" The doctor clicks her pen and writes something down.

"I know Jack, the blonde one. I know the other Jack from a distance, saw him at school. Not sure who that guy is over there." She points at Sammy.

"Well isn't that just dandy? I didn't help save your life or anything," Sammy scoffed.

"What's the last thing you remember," the doctor asks her.

"Uh," Lauren thought. "I just had midterms and I'm pretty sure I failed my algebra one because Mr. Harold sucks as a teacher."

I shook my head in disbelief. She had some memory loss. Mr. Harold taught 10th grade math. Midterms were right before she danced in that show I first saw her in. I have basically been wiped clean from her memory...at least the good bits. I squeezed her hand some more.

"Please tell me this is temporary," I begged the doctor.

"It could be, could be permanent. We'll run more tests."

The doctor sighed. Her parents came back into the room toting bags of Chinese food. Her mother nearly cried with happiness to see that her daughter was alive and awake. Immediately, the doctor takes them outside and closes the door.

"I think you have amnesia," Sammy broke the silence.

"What was your first clue?"Johnson asked sarcastically.

"Amnesia?" Lauren began to panic.

I caressed her hand. "It's okay, babe."

She yanked her hand out from under mine. "Why are you calling me babe?"

"Because you guys are together...or was," Sammy answered.

"Together?" Lauren began to breathe deeper.

"Do you even remember Chase?" I asked her.

"Who's Chase?"

We all shrugged and left it alone.

"Please remember me, baby. You have to remember. You can't do this to me."

"Sorry I didn't plan my amnesia around your schedule, Jake."
