Quiet graced the air as a woman sat in her home, reading a book, enjoying her one afternoon of not worrying about this and that of work. This woman is you, staring down into readers at a odd book about a magical land of creatures, sword fights, love. It was a world you could escape into while the one outside was actually quite dull.
Eyes scanned the pages frantically as it read at the current fight scene between a prince and a giant lion, both protecting their homes, and you simply didn't know who to root for. And suddenly, the lion's claws came down at the prince, grabbing into-
A loud knock at the door ripped you from the book, forcing you to pull your attention away from your new world to meet the closed wood door. Mumbling grumpy words under your breath you put a bookmark in and put the book haphazardly tossed to the couch.
"Coming!" You called out as you moved up towards the door, dragging your feet along as you simply did not want to leave your tranquil day off to go talk to a salesman or a neighbor asking for something. Pulling off the readers you slowly opened the door, pulling up a fake smile for whoever was on the other side, hiding your annoyance for everyone in the world who could be on the other side pestering you with their single knocking at the door.
The person on the other side, though? He was the last person you expected. He was supposed to be dead after a mission against hydra and he was certainly not supposed to be on your porch holding a bouquet of flowers for you. Eyes welling up your readers fell to the ground, your face holding no hiding of your pure shock, before simply going for the super soldier waiting for you. Arms circled around his torso as your face buried into his toned chest, grabbing onto his clothes to feel and make sure he was really here. That he wasn't just a memory, a dream, a hallucination of grief...
Just, as his arms wrapped tight around your own smaller frame, you knew he was really here. You couldn't hold it in any longer. Your dam of tears welled over and you were crying into him, pushing your cheek against him as you stared at your fallen flowers. Oh, they're so pretty...
"I tried to get the right flowers, otherwise I'd have come on a lot quicker." He chuckled softly as you pulled away to look at him. Steve. He was here! He was really, truly here. And you could only just stare up at him with loving but teary eyes.
Steve's hands came down onto your face, gently rubbing your tears away, touching you like glass that would break at the hint of a touch too hard.
"You came back, and that's all that matters..." A soft sniffle came from you as you leaned your head back against his chest, letting the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. He really was real... And he was really back for you.
"You know I'll always come back for my girl." He mumbled into your hair, having maneuvered his face to rest against against the top of your head.
"Let's go inside, shall we?"

A/N: So.. I thought of this really quickly, and I wanted it to be a big, grand oneshot, but part of me wants to turn it into a series... I've got a general idea of what I'd like to do for this, like a bunch of flashbacks and flashforwards between young and old Cap, but idk. If you'd like it lemme know! And lemme know if you want more :p
