Secret

I woke up with heavy breathing. I could still feel the pain on my arm. Jake was sitting on the other side of the bed, with his phone on hand, texting, staring at me.

"Woah Dan, calm down. What's going on? That dream isn't getting into your blood is it?"

"Sorry, and no, it's not."

"There are tears running down your face, again."

I wiped off my tears, again.

"Where's mom?"

"Downstairs with Vanessa making breakfast. Why?''

"Never mind." I sat up as I leaned to Jake. "Jake, do you think I'm going insane?"

"Want me to be honest?"

"Yes, please."

"I always knew you were. But we are brothers, I got to stay with you. I always told you."

Vanessa came to call us out for breakfast. We rushed downstairs to the table. Mom was looking sick, tired. I didn't talk about my dreams, even though Jake and Vanessa tried bringing it up. Jeremiah stared at me the whole time and didn't say a word either.

I don't like silence, where there's silence, there's boredom. So I tried to start a conversation with a very common question.

"So mom, how's your new job?"

"It's good, I get twice as much as I did in my last one. We're going to be able to buy your new beds latter on. Only, and only if you and Jake promise to take care of them. No jumping, no play fighting, no food upstairs. You guys act more like little kids than young adults when your phones are dead."

"Oh, you're asking for a lot, mom." Jake laughed.

"You don't get to tell me twice. Maybe I should wait for it."

''I mean, we promise mom, we'll take care of them.''

After we ate, I waited for everyone to leave until I stood with mom. She began doing the dishes, meaning I didn't have to wait long as everyone else ran away to not be called to help out in the kitchen.

"Mom, can we talk?"

"Sure hun', what's the matter?"

I told mom everything without leaving a detail behind. But as soon as I mentioned Sagittarius, she asked me to start again. She had a serious look and didn't blink for a minute.

I wasn't even done when she dragged me by my arm and pulled me to the closet door that's under our stairs. While I was being dragged, she called down Jake and Vanessa.

Both came down running wondering what was going on. As soon as they saw how she was holding my arm and the look in her face they knew it was something serious. Jeremiah came down running and like always tried to defend me.

"Sam! What are you doing?!"

"It's Sagittarius Jeremiah! They have to know."

"They're just kids, mom! Leave them alone!"

I pulled out my arm.

"Mom?"

As soon as she tried to reach again I stepped back.

"Why did he called you mom; and what's going on?"

"I'll explain once we're downstairs Daniel. Come on!"

"No!"

"No? "

She stops, breathes in and out as if she was trying to calm down.
