The sound of the door bell made Jennette to rush out of the bathroom, she went to the door to check the peep hole to see who it was and found out it was her friend Evelynn.
Quietly opening the door to let her in because Evelynn had once said before 'if I ring your door bell five times and there is no response I'm calling 911', seeing her friend's new hairstyle made her surprised; although she looked really beautiful with the new hairstyle but this was not Eve's style, Evelynn noticing her friend's surprised look quickly said
"There was a beauty pageant at Madison's school and we were s'pose to dress like people from the eighties, so Maddie decided I'll do a Marilyn Monroe hair style and you know her if I don't do it my life is going to be hell".
Eve said entering into the house, the see said again high pitched."OMG when would you get out of this tunnel?".
she said referring to Jennie's dimly lit sitting room, she turned on the lights as she did so Jennie reacted by rubbing her eyes because she was already accustomed to the darkness.
"are you gonna keep staring at me or are you gonna say something?" Evelynn said to Jennie who still hadn't said anything to her friend.
"I'm sorry, hi eve" Jennette said
"Finally, you spoke. So I came to prepare the house for Thanksgiving" Evelynn said
She paused and stared at Jen for a while, different things running through her mind, she tried to push the feeling of pity that she felt for her friend because she could not associate that word and Jennette Phillips together. She kept waiting for Jennette to say something but instead the latter just kept staring back
"oh no don't give me that look, Maddie, Max and I are spending Thanksgiving here. There's no way I'm letting you spend Thanksgiving alone," Evelynn said.
Evelynn knew that forcing a decision on her friend was wrong but she was clueless as to what else she could do, the only way she knew was to give her all her attention and make her feel loved to keep her safe and a little bit happy at least and spending time alone was going to drag her into the past.
The two women met after a year of the Jennette moving to New York, at a local bar where she worked. When Jennette was working her shift that day and saw a beautiful bleached blonde hair woman, mysterious grey eyes that could trap anyone, in an armani gown with a clean black leather bag and and shoes which looked liked like it was made just for her, she never thought they'd end up being friends because Evelynn looked like the exact opposite of what Jennette was, she looked like wealth and class while Jennette looked like a striving teenager which she was.
Anyone could see that the woman that walked in didn't belong in that kind of place. Jennette kept staring at the nicely dressed woman who in half an hour had downed ten shots, she was slowly getting drunk at two o clock in the afternoon. Gossips began to spread and only continued when she stumbled out drunk from the bar.
Jennette who had luckily finished her shift at three which was the time she usually had to pickup her daughter from her kind old neighbor who went to work by three thirty.
Outside she saw the woman passed out in front of a sport car which Jennette guessed would be the hers, she wanted to help the woman into the car but decided against it thinking of the fact that the she was too drunk to drive, so she she decided to try using the woman's phone –which was unlocked fortunately for Jennette– to call someone for help. She tried calling her dad but he didn't pick up, it got to a point where the woman's father started rejecting the calls.
Jennette then took the woman to the police station and gave the police her phone number for them to be able to reach her in case of an emergency then she left to pick up her child. The following day, Jennette received a call from a woman who said it was important they met and she agreed to go to the address which was one of the most expensive restaurant in New York.
