Wendy let out a cry that was equal parts pain and fear as she was thrown to the ground. She bit down on her tongue as her head hit the stone wall, snapping forward so quick that pain instantly flared in her neck. The taste of iron overwhelmed her as she tried to regain her focus. She blinked, clearing spots from her eyes, and shook her head as if to relieve the dizziness.
She drew in a trembling breath as she looked up at Brain. The dark wizard loomed over her, lips pulled into a twisted smile.
Wendy shrunk back under his gaze, trying to make herself as small as possible. Trying to disappear. The ground was cold and unforgiving. Rough earth and jagged stones dug into her skin, no doubt leaving a myriad of scrapes and bruises in their wake.
Brain took a step closer to her and she gasped, curling in on herself as tears welled in her doe brown eyes.
A low whoosh. The flutter of cloth. A concise rush of air. A drop of blood, the first of many, dropped to the cave floor.
Brain took a step back, bringing his hand up to assess the damage. The cut was long, running from between his thumb and index finger to the crook of his elbow, but it wasn't deep. Blood oozed its way up to the surface, red and raw. A stark contrast to his tanned skin. But, after a few moments, it seemed that the flow had already stopped.
Wendy stared, eyes wide with shock, at the sight before her. The Black Death had gotten between her and Brain. The assassin stood, back to Wendy, a long dagger in hand. A bead of blood ran down the blade, dripping from its tip to the ground.
Brain studied the cloaked figure standing between him and the young wizard carefully. Her presence was unexpected, and most definitely unwanted. But there was nothing he could do about her now. For, if the tales were true, trying to engage would result in near-certain death.
Besides, maybe she could be of some use later on. But, at the moment, she was in his way.
He stepped around them, offering them a sidelong glance with narrowed eyes.
A thunderous growl rumbled from the assassin as they turned their head to stare at him over their shoulder through the empty eyes of the Wyvern's skull. The sound was low, and dangerous, laced with unspoken threats and murderous intent.
Brain scoffed. The Black Death was all bark and no bite.
He reached out a hand as if to grab Wendy, and in the blink of an eye, he found himself kneeling on the ground. Spun around, his wrist held in a vice-like grip as his arm was twisted back and a small blade was lodged behind his collarbone.
The Black Death growled again, a hand drifting to the handle of the dagger at their waist. They stared at him for a long, quiet moment. Then, they tore the knife from his flesh and dropped his arm as if touching him burned.
He stood carefully, a storm raging in his crimson eyes. The Black Death didn't make any moves, letting him slink back to his underlings, all of whom were poised, ready to defend against attack.
But the attack never came.
Brain shook his head, and with a couple of powerful words, he commanded the attention of all his guild members. He decided to ignore Black Death, the exceed and the Sky Maiden for the time being, and instead focus on giving orders. They were so close to realizing their dreams! They couldn't afford any distractions anymore.

Now sure that they, nor the young wizard would be bothered, Y/n turned to face Wendy.
Wendy shrieked, pushing her back into the cave wall so hard it hurt. Happy stood on trembling legs, getting between them. He raised a paw, fixing the y/n with a truly pitiful sneer.
