Double update? It's more likely than you might think.

Nothing motivates me to write like procrastinating. And I'm doing a lot of that at the moment.

This chapter isn't all that great, but I hope you enjoy it regardless.

Hibiki sighed in contentment as he placed the piece of ice, wrapped loosely with shredded cloth, on his arm. He offered Gray an appreciative smile. "Thank you, that's so much better."

"Yeah. no problem," Gray nodded, visibly exhausted. He walked a couple of steps before dropping down into the grass with a heavy sigh.

Nirvana had been defeated. It had taken the Alliance a while to regroup, but eventually, they found their way back to one another. And so they sat, battered, bruised and entirely drained, on a small grassy hill along the side of the main path. They nursed their wounds and caught their breaths, chatting idly among themselves.

Jellal and Hoteye, now going by Richard after being affected by one of Nirvana's rays, sat with them. Hoteye and Jura were immersed in a deep conversation. Brows furrowed, voices hushed as they spoke. They lowered their tones when others walked by, but the others could catch a few words on occasion. They were speaking of the Black Death. Jura, as a Wizard Saint,

Jellal sat close to Erza, with Wendy at his side. Try as he might, he could not remember the girl, but she had not lost hope. She looked up at him with large doe-eyes as he discussed what he could recall with Erza and the group. Lucy sat across from him, lips parting as he explained that his memories of the past years felt as if he were living in a fog. She had never heard anything like what he described experiencing.

Natsu spoke with Ichiya, animatedly showing the man how he'd defeated Brain. Ren lay on his back in the grass, staring at the sky. He rolled his eyes at the fire dragon's story. Happy joined in, dancing around as he swung his paws showing.

Eve and Gray were at the top of the hill. Eve leaned his back against the trunk of a tall oak, making a crown of grass and weeds. They spoke of magic of all kinds, but mainly they discussed the similarities between their own.

A loud thump had them all startling. Their attention was drawn to the middle of the group. A leather bag slumped over in the grass and tumbled a few feet down the hill.

Lucy sat up straighter. She looked around with wide eyes. That was their bag, the one the Black Death had stolen from them. If the bag was there, then that meant...

"Hello again," the same voice as before, deep and rumbling.

A heavy wind blew, tearing leaves from trees. It grew longer still, and a cloud of dust whirled to life. Leaves and twigs cut at their cheeks as dirt and debris stung their eyes.

The wind died just as suddenly as it had started, and the Black Death stood in the branches of a beech tree. They dropped down, cloak billowing and landed in a silent crouch.

"What, you didn't think you'd seen the last of me, did you?" They asked in a tone laced with malice.

Jura was the first to get to his feet. "We figured you would have left once the job was done. Only a fool would stay behind. The council is coming. And I am a wizard Saint. There will be no escape for you."

"I disagree. You are all far too tired and drained of magic to put up a good fight. Besides, you wouldn't want anything to happen to the cat now, would you?" They pulled their hand from beneath their cloak, and the wizards gasped.

Wendy nearly choked on her breath, tears welling in her eyes.

Carla hissed and spat, scratching at the Black Death with sharp claws. The assassin gripped her harder, finger shifting to coil around her small neck. Carla stilled.
