hi!

the prompt: take your favorite (canon) character and kill them. i'm choosing to kill annabeth *cri*
also, it's a human au. (again, lol)

here goes. *deep breath*

Percy was feeling good.

Beyond good, actually. And he had all the reasons in the world to feel so. Who wouldn't? He'd just gotten the promotion he'd been working towards for the past two years, it was his second wedding anniversary today, and Annabeth was due to give birth any day now.

Speaking of Annabeth...Percy turned his head to gaze fondly at his wife, from where she slept peacefully on the queen-sized bed next to him. She was wearing the calmest expression he'd seen on her face in a while now and honestly, the effect was stunning.

Percy had never realized exactly how stressed Annabeth had been these past few months until now.

Impulsively, he leaned down and placed a gently kiss on her cheek, causing her eyelids to flutter open. "Nghh...Percy?"

"Good morning, Wise Girl." He grinned at her. "How do you feel?"

"I'm always fine after I wake up, Percy," She muttered, pulling herself into a sitting position and rubbing at her eyes with sweater paws. "You know that."

"I do," he agreed. "How's my daughter doing?"

"Perfect." Annabeth smiled, grabbing Percy's hand and placing it over her swollen belly. "Say hi to her."

He nodded, swallowing the bubble of happiness in his throat, and placed his hand on the fabric of Annabeth's shirt. "Hey there, little one. How are you doing today?"

Of course, there was no reply, except a larger smile from Annabeth. She loved it whenever Percy talked to the baby- it made him seem more innocent and childlike than he really was.

Just seeing him so excited always managed to brighten up her mood.

Percy's voice interrupted her nostalgic thoughts as he slid off the bed. "You stay here- I'm making breakfast today. Something extra special, just for you."

"Ooh, so the toast's not gonna be burnt this time?" She called mockingly to his back.

"You betcha." He spun around and gave her finger guns which she returned.

It was pretty much their Sunday ritual now. Wake up, be lazy for a while, one makes breakfast for the other, spend the morning discussing baby things, have a relaxed lunch, spend the afternoon and early evening watching random movies or just generally cuddling and go to bed early.

Annabeth found herself smiling lazily into the full-length mirror that faced the bed as she mentally went over the checklist of preparations they'd created. She'd gone over it so many times with so many different people that it was all pretty much imprinted in her brain by now.

Clothes? Check.

Baby-proofing the house? Check.

Setting up the crib with the blue blankets Percy had insisted on? Check.

Making sure the- ow.

Annabeth's lower back suddenly exploded with pain, causing her to gasp out loud.

Breathe, Annabeth. Remember what the doctor said. It might just be a false warning, her brain cautioned. Walk it off. You'll know if it's real if you do.
