"You okay?" Jotaro looked over at Kakyoin, who was adjusting the joints on his mechanical legs.
"Yeah, just the weather." Kakyoin sighed. The clouds that were gathering overhead did make Jotaro suspect that a storm was coming, but then again those clouds had been brooding for days. "I think Joseph said the same thing about his hand once, so at least I know it's not just me.”
Jotaro looked down at the silver contraptions, exposed for the moment as Kakyoin fiddled with the joints. He had known the Foundation had an expertise with artificial parts, he had seen it previously with the old man’s hand, but he couldn't help but marvel at the level of complexity that the mechanical legs possessed. The nobs and springs fit perfectly together, connecting with Kakyoin's torso, and patches of metal could still be seen when his torso was exposed. Kakyoin had told him that the Foundation had tried to save as much of his original body as possible, but to keep him functioning properly sacrifices had to be made. However,he seemed perfectly happy with his metal legs, being almost as spritely as Jotaro remembered, despite having to use a cane sometimes. The smile that often appeared on his face was contagious, and Jotaro felt himself feeling lighter than he had since the trip to Egypt.
"Do you think Josuke and his friends will be alright?" Jotaro snapped out of his head as Kakyoin spoke.
"I'm sure they'll be fine. After all, there's no reason the killer would know we're watching him." He stretched, debating whether or not to stand up. They had been sitting for hours now, having gone back to the hotel room after their meeting with Jotaro and his friends to keep researching, scanning the numerous folders of victims trying to find hints. So far, nothing.
"But the killer's not the only one we're worried about." Kakyoin reminded him. "You told me there were other stand users in Morioh, right? I'm sure quite a few of them wouldn't hesitate to kill a few teenagers if it means they're safe from being found out. Stand users attract other stand users, which they probably know is risky for them."
This was a good point, and one that Jotaro hadn't considered. But he trusted his young uncle and his odd friends, and was sure in their success. "You worry too much about them, they're responsible kids."
Kakyoin hummed. "Worrying is my job in this mission, then." He stated, finishing up his work on his mechanical legs. Standing, he walked over to Jotaro to adjust his hat. "Someone needs to do it and it might as well be me."Josuke stared down at the collection of pictures that Jotaro had given him of various victims and their crime scenes. Although Jotaro and Kakyoin were in charge if the more "detective work", they had decided that it would be easier the more people there were. "Each person has different views on things," Kakyoin had said, "which means each person sees things differently, making them able to spot things someone else might have missed." It wasn't very interesting work, but night was approaching and hunting serial killers in the dark wasn't the best of ideas.
Koichi and Okuyasu had long since went on their separate ways, most likely going home and eating dinner with whatever family they had. Josuke had already eaten, a meal he has rushed down so he could get up to his room as quickly as possible. Organising the pictures was made easier by the fact that each one had a name and date written on the back, each victim corresponding with a crime scene. Jotaro had gone through the efforts of writing these down; his clean, slightly slanted penmanship standing out on the photo paper. The dates ranged from the 1970's to one which had happened only a few days prior to Kakyoin's arrival. Although they could not prove that the murders were done by the same person, they almost all shared at least one of two things in common- either the hands of the victim were missing or the whole body was; the only evidence being items dropped by the victim and the occasional splatter of blood. The whole thing was rather disturbing, and made Josuke feel a bit sick. Many of the victims weren't much older than he was, some of them even younger.
Pushing the photos aside, Josuke sighed. The last two days had been confusing for him, beginning with Kakyoin's arrival. He knew something was happening between those two, as he had never seen his nephew act this way around anyone else. The unusual brightness he displayed, Josuke decided, could only be connected to one thing: Jotaro and Kakyoin were very much in love. They might not know it, but by the time this all was over Josuke vowed he would make sure they did. Maybe Kakyoin could even go back to Japan with Jotaro. He had heard that Jotaro had a wife, but from what he could tell they were no longer together. Happy with his conclusion, Josuke stuffed the photos back into their folder. He would look at them later, hopefully when he was less tired.Filler chapter!! Sorry this is so short, I'm sticking this in here to inform people that I am not in fact dead. Hopefully I'll be publishing more frequently in the near future!
