Chapter 4

“Wow you’re really not that hungry aren’t you?” I said as I watched Sky eat up all the food he bought. He bought a lot I mean literally it’s like all the food in the cafeteria is on the table.

“Yeah, why?”

“Is that normal?”

“Well yeah… it is for me”

“Ok…”

I stopped asking knowing that there’s no point in asking anyway. As I was about to eat my lunch, I saw Nick Gray came in the cafeteria together with his friends. Damn! He’s so hot. He’s like an angel, no more like a god and he is the captain of the football team. Why does he have this effect on me? I tried to make this feelings go away but it won’t. Grr… Now I have to suffer watching him with those slutty bimbos.

Wait why is he looking this way? Maybe he noticed me looking at him. I immediately looked away. For a couple of seconds I looked back and now he’s walking towards us but wait he’s not looking at me. I followed his gaze and he’s looking at Sky. Hmm… Do they know eachother?

“Yo Sky!”

“Hey Nick!”

“Man, long time no see”

I was dumbfounded and I realized that my mouth was open then I immediately closed it. They man-hugged, as I’d like to call it. How did a weird guy like Sky know a hot guy like Nick?

“Yeah, you too. You’re the captain of the football team huh?”

“Well not to brag, but I guess with you here I might lose my title”

“Nah… I don’t think so men you’re a great player than I am”

“Wow you’ve gone taller and I guess you already found someone to hang out with eh?”

Nick looked at my direction and I immediately looked down. My face began to heat up.

“Hey Nick!” One of Nick’s friends called.

“Sorry Sky, I need to go now. See you later bro”

“Sure. See you”

Nick looked at my direction and winked Ah!!!....... I’m shouting inside.

“Why do you look like you saw a ghost?”

I was so stunned that I just kept on staring at Sky. Then I come to my senses and found my voice.

“You know Nick?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“How did you know him?”

“Our dads are business partners and we’ve been friends since we were children. Why do you ask?”

“Nothing” I said then immediately looked away and continued eating.

“Hmm… alright” He said looking at me suspiciously.

School ended. I hurriedly walked out the classroom as I saw those people making their way to Sky again.  Ah… I’m able to breathe again seriously that guy’s suffocating me.

“Laine! Laine!”

I froze to the sound of that voice. I panicked and ran as quickly as I can. I was panting when I got home.

“What happened to you?” my sister asked after seeing me so sweaty

“Oh it’s nothing I ran from school all the way here”

“You what? Wait, Are those bullies bothering you again?”

“No, no, It’s nothing like that. It’s just this dog. It chased me that’s why I ran” I lied because I don’t want my sister to know about Sky . She’ll just keep on asking me these stupid questions that I don’t want to answer.

“Oh… Okay. Then hurry and wash up, supper will be ready in just a minute”

Hmm…my typical sister always takes care of me. Our parents are not always here because they have these business trips that made them go abroad.  That’s why at a young age, my sister already acts as a mother and a father to me. I also didn’t want my parents to be here because whenever they are here, they’ll just keep on criticizing me which makes my confidence level so low. I can’t remember any good memories with them, so I’m  pretty much happy with only just my sister around.

Supper ended and I helped my sister wash the dishes. Feeling tired, I came up to my room and slumped on the bed.  I can’t sleep. It seems like my body is already resting but my mind is fully awake. I stared at the ceiling, the next time I knew it I kept on thinking about Nick.

Well, this crush thingy started when we were still sophomores. Same old day, same things happened and I was still bullied for no reason. This time, those stupid kids locked me in the janitor’s closet and  I’ve been knocking for hours, hoping that someone would come and open the door but no one did, who would help the weird, mysterious and ugly girl anyway? So I stopped knocking and all I can do is cry, Self-pity built up, I cried for hours, hope was too farfetched. It’s quiet and the sound of my cry was the only thing that I could hear.

I watched my clock and its 6:00 in the evening, school already ended 30 minutes ago. Maybe everyone went home already. When I thought I will be stuck here until the morning, the knob moved. Maybe it was the janitor but when I looked up it wasn’t the janitor instead I saw a pair of blue eyes looking down at me.

“What are you doing here? Are you alright?”

I didn’t know what came over me but all I could do was cry.

“Whah!... Hey don’t cry, come on, let’s get you out of here”

He sat infront of me and all I could do was to stare at him. I was so busy admiring his face that I didn’t know what he’s talking about. He held my arm and I was so surprised by his touch that I pushed him away and ran out.

Ugh!!!... Why did I do that anyway? I’m so…. Weird! I never got the chance to thank him either. No wonder he never talked to me. Before that incident, I thought he was the same as those kids but he isn’t, he’s very kind and that’s how all my admiration began.
