The world was never ready for the day that natural light was scarce...

World War One. The war to end all wars. Or so the signers of the peace treaty thought. Seven years later broke World War Two. Everyone thought it would never happen again.
Here we are today. 2095, December 24. Russia has launched nuclear missiles towards the United States. So we thought. It was poland that took the brunt of the round. They detonated and contacted the President.
"That could have been you precious country."
Those words sparked a second cold war. Tensions were even higher than the first. The world began to mount for the third in a world wide arms race. Countries calling to others on their debts. The others could not comply. This furthered tensions. Finally the Second bomb was deployed in 2098 in July 13th. No one was ready. Iran launched one out of a scare that England was after their heads.
With in 15 minutes England was no more.
Word spread rapid that Iran shot off missles. Not just Two or Three. 45.
Quickly the world launched missile after missle to annihilate every possible country that could back stab them. Citizens took to Nuclear Shelters or embraced what last hours on this earth they had with their loved ones.First bomb strike hits Japan wiping them out followed by Russia, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Ireland, Hawaii, and Alaska. Soon the entire world had began to flood by the sheer heat of the bombs taking out New Orleans was underwater, California drifted away from the usa into the pacific. Thailand was going under quick. The bombs didn't let up.
China, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, United States, Brazil, Jerusalem, Spain and Cuba, gone in seconds. Many survivors prayed to every god they could think of, Biblical, Greek, Roman, literally any god. Even if they didn't believe. The last country, partially submerged in water went up that same day. New Zealand. There was no country that survived. Only few shelters dug deep enough had survivors from the blasts.
The world went from over trillions of people to less than a thousand people remaining within the span of 6 hours.
More or less it was the rich and the most athletic people that had survived.
Many families were separated from each other, some permanently.
This was the final stand of Humanity.
It was up to survivors to bounce back.
