"Come before dinner," said Hoseok's mother as he ran towards the park in front of his house, shoes clicking on the tiled path, still dressed in his uniform for kindergarten.
Running around the playground full of kids, his eyes got stuck on a little girl, about his age, sitting on the ground next to a bench. A small bag was sitting on the bench with a water bottle, some wires and scotch tape sticking out of it while she closely observed the flowers she had plucked, not caring if her hands were dirty or not.
Hoseok walked upto her, wondering what she was doing, sitting in a park all alone. "Hello!" he said with a bright smile but the girl ignored him, continuing to do whatever she was doing. "I am Jung Hoseok." The girl looked up at him, smiled and went back to her work as Hoseok sat down in front of her. "What's your name? Do you have any friends?" he asked her.
"I am Kang Minjee." the girl replied. "My friends do not live near my house that is why I cannot meet them."
"Where do you live?" Hoseok asked, feeling sad for Minjee.
"I live there" Minjee pointed cheerfully towards a house right across the park.
"Really?" Hoseok asked excitedly, getting a nod from Minjee in response. "My house is that one." He said, pointing towards his house.
"Which one?" Minjee asked not being able to see. "The one next to yours." Hoseok explained.
"The white coloured house?"
"No, the other one."
"Oh!" Minjee acknowledged as she sat back down.
"What are you doing?" Hosek asked.
"I am making flower crown for my friends. The white one is for Eunmi. Red for Jiyeon. Purple is Taehee. orange for Areum. Aeri gets the blue one and this yellow one is for Seoyeon." Minjee explained, showing Hoseok the completed ones. "Do you want one?"
"Yes. Can you make it for my mother?"
"Sure." Minjee replied.
"Come on Minjee." They heard the voice of an older woman. "It is time to go."
"I will see you tomorrow." Hoseok said.
"After school?"
"Yes, after school."
"Promise?" She asked, walking upto Hoseok, her pinky finger raised.
"Promise." Hoseok replied, wrapping his pinky finger around hers.
She quickly packed up her stuff, picked up her crowns and walked towards her mother, who took hold of her backpack for her. "I made a new friend today."
"That's nice," Said Minjee's mother.
"His name is Jung Hoseok, he lives next to our house."
"Hmm, well, why don't you go and tell Hoseok to come with us? His mother must be waiting for him."
"Okay," Said Minjee, as she happily ran back to the park bench.
