(Derrick's POV)
It'd had been a month since that night but I haven't moved on from it. I go to school and come home. My grades were dropping and I got kicked off the basketball team. We was getting ready for winter break and the snow had already settled in.
I had started to approach Stephanie several times but she would see me coming and run the other way. She wouldn't let me try to explain my feelings for her. She cut me out. At least I get to look at her at school.
She was glowing with the pregnancy. Her hair looked radiant. If only I could touch her, feel those wonderful sparks again. I wanted my mate for heaven's sake! Why does she think I don't want her?
I had just walked in the front door from school and dad immediately called me into his office. "Son, I know things are rough for you right now, your mom and I are worried about you." Dad stated. I didn't say anything, just looked at him.
"It's stressing your mother's pregnancy. She doesn't eat much and it's not healthy for the baby. I don't want her to lose it. You know how much she wants this!"
"Yes, yes I do! I can't help it that my mate is rejecting me! I can't deal with it! If she would listen to me things would change! I'm sorry this is affecting mom but it's also affecting me! Did you - have you even thought of me during this!?!" I walked out. I couldn't handle this stress. I jumped in the mustang and peeled out of the driveway.
(Matthew's POV)
I was worried about Derrick, with the way he left and he hasn't come back. He left six hours ago. I know he's worked up about the Stephanie thing but he wouldn't do anything crazy, would he? This had me questioning how well I actually knew my son.
As bed time came, Derrick had still not come home. I call Max, my Beta, to see if he had heard anything. He said no but told me he would go out on a search and let me know. I went to sleep knowing Max would find him.
I was awoken an hour later by the phone ringing, "This better be good."
"I found Derrick," Max responded.
"Where is he?" I asked, something told me this wasn't going to be good.
"He's been in an accident. I got there right when the cops did. We're fixing to load up in the ambulance to go to the hospital."
"Which hospital? We'll meet you there." I woke LeAnne up and told her to get ready.
"Greyson-Mercy." I hung up without another word. I didn't tell LeAnne where we were going but that we had to go to Derrick. The thirty minute drive to Greyson-Mercy took forever but we got there right as the ambulance carrying Derrick and Max pulled in.
"Oh my God!" LeAnne ran forward clutching Derrick's bloody hand. The EMTs took him in and a nurse took us to a waiting room. LeAnne sobbed and kept asking about her son. I was now worried about my son and my wife. She needed to calm down so the baby wouldn't go into distress.
"LeAnne? Take this honey." I gave her some of the medication the doctor gave her to help her sleep.
Once she had drifted off I went to find someone who could tell me what was going on with my son. Nurses seemed to be every where but I had trouble finding one that was on my son's case.
"Are you his father?"
"Yes!" I was getting frustrated, I was getting no answers.
"He just got out of surgery and is in a private room per surgeons orders. I can take you up there now to meet the doctor." I finally got my answers from a nurse named Samantha.
"I've got to get my wife first."
"Yes sir." After getting LeAnne into a wheelchair, we made our way up to the fourth floor into a private room where Derrick laid hooked up to every machine imaginable.
"When Derrick crashed, his airbags failed to deploy. His seat belt kept him back but not enough to keep him from hitting the steering wheel. He has eight broken ribs, dislocated shoulder, broken humerus and ulna, fractured femur, and many cuts and bruises. He is in a coma and had several internal bleeding. Since he is a wolf, he is healing well, but I don't know nor can I tell you for sure when and if he will wake up." Dr. Wilson gave us this detailed information and then asked if we needed anything.
"Can we get a bed for my wife, she's four months pregnant and very stressed out right now," I asked.
"Sure thing. Be back in a few to check Derrick again." After the doctor left, I got a good look at Derrick. My poor son didn't look like himself. His face was swollen and bruised plus he had numerous casts covering the upper part of his body plus a full leg brace immobilizing his right leg. What happened? Why did he wreck?
I guess I won't know until he wakes up. There's no ifs to that either. My son is a fighter, he will come out of this. I could tell he was already healing. Bruises were fading as I looked at him right now. It won't be long till his body is healed.
