Alexa retraced her steps through the woods, flashing her flashlight in every direction as she spun around in a circle — but there was no sign of the author. Just the dark night and her rising heartbeat due to all the running and the high stakes of the current situation.

"The author, where is he?" David inquires as he, Mary Margaret, and Emma catch up to her.

"I don't know." Alexa shakes her head as she slowly regains her breath. "But goddamn, that guy really knows how to run."

"We know him." Mary Margaret blurts.

"What?" Emma questions as the twins turn to their parents.

"We met him a long time ago, before you two were born." Mary Margaret explains."He, um.."

"Manipulated us." David states looking at his wife. "It's because of him we were put on the path to causing Maleficent to lose her child."

"It's true." Mary Margaret urges.

"No, don't. The author did not put that baby through a portal to god knows where. The two of you made that choice, an unarguably selfish one. And worst of all — you lied to me and Emma about it. You didn't trust us enough to.." Alexa starts.

"That's not the case. We do trust you girls. It's just one incident from our past." David presses.

"Oh, don't make it out to be so minuscule. I'm not a freaking mouse." Alexa scoffs.

"Alexa, maybe we should we listen to them." Emma interjects.

"I'm sorry — what?" Alexa inquiries facing her twin.

"Yeah, they lied. But haven't we all? And I'm not pointing any fingers or anything, but I wouldn't exactly call you innocent." Emma shrugs.

"You're all insane." Alexa snaps walking away from them.

"Alexa, I know you're upset, but we've changed. We tried to become the parents you and Emma deserve." Mary Margaret says stepping in front of her.

"That may be, but the only reason that I was able to become the savior you all say I was born as is only because you altered my fate by sacrificing someone else's soul." Alexa exclaims. "So, yes, I am what you would call a little upset."

"You're right. What we did, it was wrong." David agrees. "But we.. we didn't fully understand what we were doing. We acted out of fear. We're human."

"Yeah, I get that. I just.. I need some time to process all this new information — because in case you can't tell, you've revealed a big secret about yourselves in a span of about thirteen minutes." Alexa tells them. "It's a bit overwhelming."
