The beach was a place where loads of families came to enjoy the view—of the waves crashing against one another—and to relax underneath the heat of the sun, on top of the grainy sand.

I took off my see-through white dress, and sat down on the lavender beach towel, underneath the large, cherry red umbrella.

From a number of the people that attended the beach, it always seemed off-putting to be alone among the sweaty crowd. However, now that I'm here, it felt relaxing to escape away from the tensions at home. The salty breeze whisked away the problems and stress, and the grainy sand left soft imprints onto my feet and hands.

I decided earlier that day, that no matter what, I couldn't let Hunter get to me. So many people have mis-used me and tossed me away like I was nothing. Like I never even mattered. I can't add him to that list of people. I just couldn't.

I would just have to ignore my feelings because, at this point, they wouldn't even matter once everyone gets up and leaves. It's a silly dream to think he would love me back and we'd run away into the sunset. This was a reality, and for once I didn't want to screw this up.

Turning onto my back, I put in my earphones and blasted the music from my iPhone. The sun's rays hit down on me perfectly, kissing my skin with warmth. I buzzed with happiness, and my endless pit of dark emotions was finally closing up.

I lay on the towel, in my orange-cream-popsicle-colored bikini. I had tied my long dirty blonde hair up into a high ponytail so it wouldn't get in my face. To protect my eyes, I threw on some small circular black shades so I could lay facing the sun.

It seemed perfect.

Almost Perfect.

I turned off my music before picking up the phone, slightly annoyed for having to disrupt my time at the beach.

"Tessa, where are you? You could have at least informed me before you left. I just got back home to an empty house," Hunter's rough voice spoke through the phone. He wasn't happy.

"I thought I left a note, but sorry dad. I'm at the beach, " I responded back with a little fiery tone to my usual, delicate voice.

I wasn't going to have any of it today. Today was special to me and I wanted to focus on that—even if no one else knew or cared.

At the back of my mind, a tiny voice rang in my head. He cared. It was the first time anyone actually called to ask about my whereabouts. It felt nice to me inquired about, to know that someone on the other end of the line was worried about you.

He was not making my growing attraction to him any less easy.

"K, I'm coming," He said quickly before instantly hanging up on me. Confused, I only turned up my music and basked in the sunshine.
