I reached home around 10 o clock. My father worked hard as an engineer to built a four storey building , painted in cream colour. Our home was specifically designed by a renowned interior designer. Whenever I went home back home after a tiring day, I felt relaxed. My mom , a yoga instructor made sure that it was not just a building but a home. Ground floor and second was ours and other two floors were rented. There
lived two families in the rented area, punjabi family and a tamilian family.I walked through our large garden, smiling at my favourite flowers, roses. I closed the door behind me as I entered and headed straight to kitchen.
Masala paneer and tandoor roti filled my nostrils and it was only then I realised I was damn hungry. As I stepped into kitchen, my mother came into view, with black locks falling messily on her face. Even in sweat and flour, she shone like a red carpet model.Whenever I looked at my mom, I could tell why my dad was head over heels for her.
I got my good looks from my mom, same black hair, soft and silky, same brown eyes and same creamish skin colour.
I locked my mom in my arms from behind and rested my chin on her head. I was good 6 inches taller than her. She was not short but I was an inch more than six, so I towered her.
"Nihaal? Why did you come so early?" She asked worriedly
"The licious smell of paneer masala pulled me back home". I winked.
She kept a worried look,"But you were about to..."
"Mom I am hungry... please food first" I interrupted her. I pouted to make extra effect.
She pulled my cheeks. "Okay! mom no! please!"
She gave a hearty laugh, "Come, I will serve you. Call , Nikush as well."
I walked upto Nick's room and opened the door to see him sitting in front of the study table. His room was a shade of blue and indigo. His room was neat and had minimum furniture. A dressing table in front of the door and a bed beside it. Study table occupied the right corner of the room. There was a bean bag beside the bed, which we together shopped two years back.
He was staring at the inked words but I knew his mind was in some other world. It was only then I noticed how tired he looked, like a wrestler who lost a combat.
"Nick, dinner man."
He turned his head around and gave a exhausted nod.
" And after dinner meet me at terrace on 11"
His body tensed and he asked nervously "Bro is something wrong?"
I took a moment to study his fearful eyes.
"No, Just some bro talk."
He gave a stiff nod.
The dinner was silent and only sounds were of our scratching spoons across the plates.
I finished my dinner early so I excused myself first. I went straight to terrace although i was dying to jump in my bed. I had a long day but this issue could not wait.
Our terrace was a big place with three small round tables and three wooden chairs with each glass table. There were lots of flower pots giving our terrace a garden like look. The whole idea of this look was of my mom, she believed if she held yoga classes in a natural and open area it would me more fruitful.
So here I was, with my mind full of thoughts, thoughts about the girl who slapped me, thoughts about the phone call girl, thoughts about my brother. I knew my brother better than anyone or did I miss something? Nikush never had any complaints from school and if ever my mom recieved a call from school, it was always about invites to award functions. He had always been a merit student and a great volleyball player. Well, I was never in the habit of checking his phone but I was pretty sure he never involved himself in complicated relations. All the friends he had , were from good families. Nothing was striking me. May be it was a prank call but his fear stricken face told me otherwise. His nervousness on the dining table told me something was up and I needed to find it out.
