There is a saying, "sirens are the spirits of women who are thrown off ships for they are badluck to have on board. And they are back as the sea creature to seek vengeance by luring sailors into the deep sea along with them."
The story that have always been told to generation after generation like a fairy tale or a warning from parents to their childs who listens to it.
I listened to it before, but now I believe it is not just a fairy tale..
Because I can see it with my own eyes..
My childhood friend, the girl that once I invited to go on my father's ship just so we can play together, ended up thrown off the ship by my own father because she is a 'badluck' for the ship.
I tried to stop him, but he didn't budge and let her body sinking into the bottomless ocean.
But now I see her again, after 15 years of sailing with my own ship now, her limbs- or I should call fins now all tangled up on the net. Her eyes piercing into mine as I walked up to her and reach for her face.
She looks tired after struggling to be free of the net.
"Hongjoong, don't go near her! She may lure you to sink back down with her!" Seonghwa, my crew member warned me from a far with his hands on the sides of his head.
Without I realized it she has starts singing with her luring voice, calling for anyone to come with her into the abyss.
"Captain!" the others calls for me to come back to them, but I can't seem to stop in my track now.
She keep singing, but then suddenly she stopped and staring into mine with the dead fish eyes of hers.
"you're not affected..?" and as if she is scared, she moves away from my touch while keeping our eyes in contact.
I smiled, a genuine smile that I rarely show to anyone.
"oh [name]..."
I reach out for her fins-hand and holds it close to me.
"I've fallen for you years ago."
