It was late but the lights weren't switched off yet. Wondered what she was doing there, she never went to bed late. Bet she was alone, all by herself. Where have her parents gone to? Why did they let her stay at home by herself? With neighbors not being present to boot.

How brave, he thought. She had always been like that as she grew up. She used to be a scaredy cat. Now what made her change?

Brave yet a fool. Too brave leads to stupidity. You think you can save yourself when danger comes? When you know nothing about how to defend yourself? What a pity.

Then, he decided to knock on the door.

Rin looked away from her phone as she heard the door. Then, she looked at the clock hanging on the living room wall.

It was already 12.00 am.

She thought it was some sort of a mystic being who was trying to scare the shit out of her. She didn't even want to move from her sofa. Holding her phone tightly, she walked to the door slowly. Looking out the window beforehand as she was cautious if the uninvited guest was physically human or an invisible ghost.

Who would even come and visit someone's home at this hour, knocking on the door? Obviously, it was a ghost's doing!

She turned away before she even reached her actual destination, the sacred door. She should better go to sleep. It was already past her bedtime.

"Rin, it's me. Open the damn door," a voice called.

The voice was familiar to her. She wondered if it was another trick of the ghost.

"Come on. I know you're not asleep yet,"

Of course you do, she thought.

She heard him groaned.

"Rin, seriously. Are you mad at me or something? I know I came at a wrong timing, you might think I'm a ghost right now but I'm legit Reiji,"

Hm, that sounded like him but ghosts can impersonate anyone so that wasn't convincing enough. She remained quiet. She didn't want to talk with a potential ghost that might haunt her in the future.

"Oh my god, Rin. Ah, never mind. Guess, you really think I'm a ghost. I will just sleep here until the next morning if I have to,"

"What the hell were you thinking, Reiji?" She asked as she opened the door.

"Ha! I knew you would open the door eventually. You were convinced that I'm not a ghost," Reiji laughed.

Rin rolled her eyes. "Yeah, no. You sucked. Even your timing sucked. I just trusted my heart that screamed "It's Reiji, real Reiji! There was no ghost!" Anyways, what are you doing here, at this hour?" Rin raised a brow as she asked.

Reiji rubbed his nape. "Can't I at least come in first? I've been standing out here for quite long,"

Rin turned her back towards him as she walked back into the house, sighing, "Fine, come in and spill,"

"You know, you could have just texted me to tell me you came. You made me have some crazy ideas," Rin started to lecture the lad.

Reiji let out a nervous chuckle. "Well, I didn't think of that,"

Suddenly, she felt something sharp and cold thrusting her neck. She gasped.

"Shh... not a word. No one's here to help you anyways," he whispered near her right ear.

A chill ran down her spine but she didn't budge as she tried to stay calm.

"It's been awhile since I last being this close to you. I missed it. I missed you. Did you miss me?" Reiji asked her but received no answer.

"Of course you do. I've been gone for so long after you've abandoned me. Now, you've grown so much and I'm mostly forgotten. How could you? We played together all the time before. What made you change?" She heard his voice cracking.

She remembered all the good times they spent together. Until one day, she had had enough of him. She was so lonely until he came. He was like her everything, her new world. The world she wanted to live in. She depended on him too much that she learnt, sooner or later he will ruin her.

"Reiji, are you seeking vengeance toward me? Is that why you finally came after so long?" Rin asked keeping her cool.

Reiji laughed wickedly, "You know me so well, Rin. You of all people, know me so well. Yet, you still act like you know nothing. You don't care about my feelings. You're so cold, Rin. So cold," he whispered to her with his sad tone.

With a blink of an eye, without any chance to speak more, to explain herself, she felt the cold blade cut through her throat. She chocked, trying to breathe but in vain.

She let her lifeless body fell onto the ground, helplessly. Blood oozing out from her neck. Eyes wide, not blinking anymore.
