Remington Parks wasn't like other people, or at least thats what people seemed to think, his parents thought he was a prize to show off to their friends, or they used to, back when he still did his best at school, when he made an effort to make friends, when he was still willing to be their little plaything and do whatever they said.

Remington was a disappointment to his parents, he knew that, they made sure he did, passing grades weren't enough, he had to be the best, anything else wasn't good enough.

they wanted the perfect son, as most parents do, they wanted him to be popular, with straight A's, and a perfect girlfriend; but they got him, somebody who didn't want that, he was too anxious to be popular, his ADHD made it so he couldn't focus in classes, and he didn't have the energy to study at home, and he was not looking for a girlfriend, because he was gay, well, he was actually pan-romantic but people didn't seem to understand what that means, so he told them he was gay, he has a preference for men anyway, not many people new this of course, after having to move because of bullying he knew better than to shout it from the rooftops (awful so far i know).

it was the first day back at school after the winter holidays, and Remington was dreading it, back to school meant back to judgemental stares, shouted insults, tossed remarks, and people lining up to punch him, he had been trying to convince himself it wouldn't be like that it would be better than that, but it wasn't really working.

he walked downstairs that morning and was about to leave when his mother stopped him

"be sure to make friends today Remington, you don't want a repeat of last year do you?" his mother said in a tone that almost sounded like she was concerned for her son, but he knew she wasn't,

"yeah, yeah, i know, i know" he had learned a long time ago that it was easier to just agree with his mother, or at least, it got him out of the house faster  "now i'm going to be late if i don't walk out of that door in the next two seconds so can i leave?"  he also knew that reputation was everything to his mother, so this was a good tactic to get her to back off ;

she let him past and then he was off, walking towards a new school, already fearing for his life.
