Chapter: 3

The day of the dinner party. The girls' house was as clean and neat as possible. The cooking had been done around lunch time; so the girls could all get ready at leisurely a pace. Ha! Leisurely pace my foot! "Mia, where is my hair clip that you borrowed?" " Check your boudoir draw Jane! Cherise can you help me braid my hair please?"" Cherise is busy Mia, but I'll help you." Naomi says walking into the blonde girl's room. The girls were hurrying to be ready before their guests were to arrive. Meanwhile at the pony Express station: "Hurry up boys, Sam will be here soon! We don't want to keep him or the young ladies waitin'!" Emma called into the bunkhouse. She and Teaspoon were ready to go, they were just waiting for the boys and Lou to finish getting themselves ready. "Alright Emma!" Kid said, pulling on his hyde jacket. Ike was dressed and had put on a fresh bandana. Buck was ready too, he had pulled his hair back. Jimmy and Cody were the last two to get ready. "Would you move please?" Jimmy asked, as he straightened his collar. Cody was in front of the mirror combing his hair. "No, I cannot." He says stubbornly. "C'mon guys, even I don't take that long!" Lou says, walking out the door. The boys manage to compromise and finish getting ready.

The dinner party: It was about 4ish when the pony express group got to the girls' house. Supper was ready and the evening went well. I think even the hardest of hearts was beginning to warm up. By the end of the night, everyone had enjoyed themselves, they laughed and talked. Enjoying getting to know each other better. When it was time to leave, the girls walked their guests out to their horses and buggy. "That was a right fine meal girls. Thank-you again for a lovely evenin'." Mr 'spoon says after everyone was back on their horses and all. "Thank-you and Thank-you for coming! I guess we'll see y'all again soon?" Jane said on behalf of the girls. "Yes ma'am! See y'all Sunday!" Miss Emma says as the buggy started to pull away. The young riders followed the cart. "Good-bye girls!" They said, as they rode away. The girls waved good-bye, then headed back inside. They cleaned up after the party. Jane swept the floors, Naomi put the chairs back, cerise did the dishes, and Mia dried them. Once everything was done, the girls called it a night.

The following day: everyone got up early and went to church. The sermon let out about 11:30. The Young riders had left after the service. The boys, Emma, Lou, and Mr teaspoon were eating lunch and talking about the night before. "Those girls sure are hospitable little ladies." Mr 'spoon says, fixing his plate with some of Emma's amazing mashed potatoes. "Yeah, they're all good girls. I was impressed with their manners. I was talking to one of them. I think it was Mia. She was telling me about their new house and jobs. She said they've been real busy what with all the highway attacks." Emma says, laddling some soup into a tureen. "Goodness gracious, sometimes I worry about those girls. Protecting a stage coach is not a easy job!" She says, handing the tureen to Buck to put it on the table. "I'm sure they are quite capable of taking care of themselves Emma. They all appear to be intellegent young women. Teaspoon and I have told them that if they need any assistance at anytime they could come to us or if the boys are available, they'd be more than willing to help."Sam assures her. "Why sure we would! if those little gals need help. I'd be more than happy to oblige!" Cody says, the other boys agree. "Don't you worry yourself Emma, I doubt those little ladies will need assistance, Just judging by the way They carry themselves. I'd say those highway robbers should be more afeard of those girls than the other way around." Mr 'spoon says, Emma sits down at the table. "Now let's say grace." Mr 'spoon says taking of his hat, they all bend their heads as he gives thanks for the food.
