Mez woke up to the sound of his alarm clock. It was his first day back at Mezville High School after the summer and already he was dreading the initiation ceremony that would begin the new year. The great Mez had decreed that every year all the students in Mezville High work on putting on a performance for the first years, before they all joined paws and sung the towns national anthum, God Save the Mez. It was Mez's fourth year of taking part and all he ever did was stand at the back while the other cats, more enthusiastic than himself, did all the work. He knew it wasn't the popular thing to do.
