Your life had never really rewarded you no matter how hard you tried. You were stuck in a gutter, unable to climb your way back out. It felt like you played the wrong cards with god in some past life and now, you'll never ascend into something better... You were glued down by cement.
People thought of you as a sidewalk as well, just another place to step on. Life had always been like this and it has made you duller than a spoon. But even with this treatment, you reasoned with yourself. You'd find other boys rejected by humanity just like you, but some treatments were worse.
Ever since you saw this boy Dwight, being pushed and insulted like he was simply a pile of trash. They treated him like it. You felt bad for the boy. Surely, being ignored by society was better than being ridiculed by it.
You had it better, you were luckier.
Dwight and you never spoke, only passing on curious glances but in a way, that was enough for you. Stupidly, you grew a crush for this boy and you felt as if he could see it in your eyes as you two looked at each other.
Sometimes, those glances were the only thing getting you through the day and vice versa.
Neither of you was brave enough to talk to one another, though, and that was okay.
This happened for years on end even when graduation started. After school, you never saw Dwight again...
<Present Day>
Mundane, tedious, and exasperating. Routines were never fun. You stared deeply at the paper in front of you. College... You had tried so hard to become noticed by people now and you surprisingly got accepted to a college.
You sigh, saddened. You gingerly picked up your project. Your hands shook; you didn't know why. Suddenly, the sound of tearing paper filled the dormitory as you ripped your work into shreds. No expression was on your face as you stared at the destroyed piece of paper, but that didn't stop the tears.
They rolled down your cheeks, staining them in the process. No matter how hard you persisted against the enemy of feelings, they pushed back stronger. A quiet sob found its way out of your lips. You slumped to the floor, defeated.
You didn't know why this was happening... How could life be so gentle yet so cruel? Was it even worth being noticed anymore? It would never happen, you knew that but never accepted it as a fact, only as a simple maybe...
It felt like the room was slowly fading into an abyss of nothing. You screwed your eyes shut and whacked your head "Get a grip..." You mumbled, lip quivering as you did so. Your eyes snap open.
Darkness.
It was strange: how darkness had always related to cold, but it was cold. No, it was freezing... Were you dead? Or had you just passed out?
You inhaled deeply and regained your strength to finally stand once again. Wrapping your arms around yourself, you called out "Hello?" No answer. Of course... You chuckled a bit at yourself as your eyes scanned the pitch-black place surrounding you.
A forest began to come into view. How did you end up here...? A sudden scream of pure agony erupted into the air, echoing. A person... Your feet began to make their way towards the place you assumed it came from. People with common sense wouldn't have approached the possible danger but-
You stop in your tracks to be confronted with a dangling man on a large meat hook. You became speechless as he looked you with this desperation that terrified you to your bones. You step forward, standing in front of the hook now and went on your toes to help this man off the painful hook.
You grimaced at the sight of this boy's shoulder... What happened here...? You returned your gaze to the injured person. He had a dress shirt with a tie and glasses. His pants were black "You need to get to a hospital.." You expressed your concern.
"No," whispered the man as he shakily took your arm, leading you off to hide.
Something was familiar about this guy... His antics... He bit his fingernails, always wearing a cautious expression... He looked back at you and your gazes lingered longer than needed "Dwight..?" You whispered, finally recognizing him.
A sudden look of surprise overtook him "Wait... Y/N...?" You nod and feel a smile form on your lips. You pulled Dwight into a bear hug with a sigh, forgetting about his wound in which he whined about "Sorry..." You mumbled.
You couldn't believe this... The only person who really ever bothered to look your direction... You didn't let go of him "What's happening?" You asked but just felt arms wrap around you. You weren't given an answer as you leaned into the hug, closing your eyes with content.
After all that time of not speaking to each other... You couldn't believe Dwight remembered you... But you were glad. You whispered something "I missed you.."
No, looks were no longer enough.
And done. Please tell me how that was. I feel like I could've made it longer, but it's late at the moment, so I'll check this later. Um, feedback on my grammar? I'm not very good at it and end up guessing, especially on colons and semicolons. :3))
