Chapter Four continued...
I am so royally fucked.
Yeah, I said it. There's a right time and place for the F-Bomb. This was it.
I leap out of the hot tub and scramble for my own things. There's some laughter in the hot tub behind me. Have I screwed everything up? It was just a dare to them. I'm sure they know that.
"Ari, wait!"
She's already storming through the darkened house. Everyone has gone home and even Paris is nowhere in sight. Ari reaches the front door and then slams the door behind her, nearly slamming it in my face. I leap back before grabbing for the doorknob and running after her down the porch.
She's standing in the yard putting on her clothes and I quickly try to do the same. The night air is cold and brushing against my wet bikini; making me shiver. We must look half-crazy, half-naked, racing to put our clothes on the front lawn in this fancy upscale neighborhood.
"Ari...can't you just wait for 10 seconds?" I say in a whispered shout.
I'm not trying to call attention to the neighbors, but I'm panicking a little. Ari ignores me. She's already dressed and moving towards the street. She'd worn shorts and a tank top a much easier outfit to reclothe yourself in, while I'm struggling. My skin is still damp from the hot tube and my jeans aren't going up easy. I finally get it together and go running after her. She's heading towards her Jeep.
"Where are you going? You can't drive."
She whips around to face me.
"I know that!" She snaps and then walks past her Jeep.
I quietly follow behind her. It seems I'm always chasing after her. Always doing something wrong to set her off. We must be headed for her house. Will she let me in or ask me to leave? Would she bother asking or just slam the door in my face?
I cross my arms over my chest and look around the dimly lit streets. It's late, dark, and neither of us is wearing much. Ari less than me. I'm nervous, even though we are in a nice neighborhood, and only it further frustrates me. She's always putting me in uncomfortable situations. If we'd stayed in or studied none of this would've happened.
"Relax, it was a dare!" I shout at her back. "It'll be fine."
She doesn't stop but throws me a silent glare. She's giving me the silent treatment and shutting down again. I hate it when she ignores me. It hurts and makes me angrier than anything. I wasn't who deserved to be given the silent treatment. She had just been kissing another girl right in front of me. For some crazy reason, she expects me to be okay with it. Dare or not. She hadn't even tried to pull away.
"You kissed Rosa! Right in front of me!"
She keeps walking but we are close enough I know she can hear me.
