East Mainland, State of Xia

The second her eyes opened, consciousness returning to her full force, the sound of voices from outside her door filled her ears.

"The bitch better be dead! She not only disgraced the Wāng Clan name by turning out to be a total good for nothing, she even evoked the displeasure of her own fiancée, the Ninth Prince, by not giving His Highness the respect he deserves! Because of what this bitch did, we've lost face in front of the Prince, and simultaneously, the whole Imperial family! We've only just recently regained His Majesty's favor after years of relentlessly pursuing it, and yet she seeks to singlehandedly cut the only remaining tie that connects us to the Imperial family!"

A soft voice that could only belong to a female cut in, in an attempt to placate the other. "Grandfather, please don't be hard on Yue'er. While admittedly, she is at fault, but punishing her to this extreme is hardly necessary. I'm certain she would learn her lesson soon enough."

"Pah!" The loud, gruff voice resounded again, anger lacing his tone. "I never get how you're so soft on that damned brat, Huifen. Since you spoiled that ungrateful girl to this extent, look at what it has gotten us! She only brings nothing but misfortune! I should have disowned and kicked her out of the Wāng Estate when I had the chance!"

"Grandfather, she is still late Uncle's only daughter. Yue'er has been orphaned at a young age. Please don't be hard on her."

The man scoffed. "I could hardly see the resemblance between my son and this wretch. Ah Cheng was a natural born genius who had already attained the rank of World King at the mere age of thirteen. And this so called daughter of his has yet to advance from the Qi Refining stage – hell she could hardly break through the third level! It was plain obvious that she was not made to be a cultivator; she was a mere good for nothing who did nothing but bring shame to the entire Wāng Clan! I should have killed her when she was just an infant - "

"Don't say that, Grandfather. Yue'er is still Grandfather's biological granddaughter!"

"That wretch will never be my granddaughter!"

Wāng Ying Yue tried to move, but found she was unable to do so. Every inch of her ache with unbearable pain, particularly her back, which felt like it was set on fire. It was obvious that she had been whipped severely. Cold eyes scanned the room in silent perusal, seeing nothing but darkness. Something trickled down her brow; she could only guess that it was blood.

It only took her a few moments to grasp the situation she was in.

The last thing she remembered was falling from a cliff after she stabbed herself with her own sword. Memories of her past life flashed through her mind: her father's death; her sister's betrayal; her husband and sister's affair and their conspiracy to take the dragon's throne; and the fall of the once mighty Emperor Qi.

'I'm entrusting the Dragon's Heart to you,' Emperor Qi's words rang in her ears, and she unconsciously touched her sleeve, where her interspatial ring was located. She winced in pain when she accidentally prodded on what felt like a huge bruise encircling her wrist. 'Do not ever let this fall into the wrong person's hands, especially Yuan'er. Promise me.'

Indeed, the Dragon's Heart was still in her possession, despite the fact that her soul had transcended into another body. She could feel it vibrating even if it was sealed inside her interspatial ring, so great its spiritual power was.

At that precise moment, she knew then that it was the Dragon's Heart which had sent her here, and was responsible for granting her this second chance at life. Her theory had worked; the Dragon's Heart, a powerful spiritual stone which was said to be the heart of the ancient Dragon King himself, is only loyal to its master. Since the late Emperor Qi had entrusted the spiritual stone to her willingly, it naturally recognized her as its new master. According to theory, the Dragon's Heart - aside from being a symbol that flaunts the Emperor's power and influence (usually, the infamous spiritual stone was passed by the former Emperor to his heir) - would do literally anything its master wishes...even if it's to betray Heaven's will and revive a person's life.
