Wāng Ying Yue already knew from the original body's memories that she was a good for nothing.

It was the reason why she faced so much ridicule and humiliation when '
she was alive, the reason why she suffered so much up to the moment of her death. At the ripe age of fourteen, 'Wāng Ying Yue' stayed placid at the Qi Refining Stage at level two, when most young men and women 'her' age had long since passed that stage and had already begun building their Qi foundation, while a few gifted others had already begun to form their golden core, one of the most important stages of cultivation.

The Wāng Clan was one of the three most powerful and respected clans in the capital simply because most of its members were renowned geniuses in cultivation. The Second Branch's Master, the late Wāng Cheng, who was also 'Wāng Ying Yue's' father, was considered the prodigy who shook the very foundations of the cultivation world.

At a young age, he had shown remarkable talent and technique; this could not only be attributed to his spiritual root, which was undeniably unique in its purest and complete form. While it gave him a huge boost in his abilities, Wāng Cheng learned to rely on his own skills and strengths as a cultivator, and with the help of his unique spiritual root, he was able to break through the rank of World King at the mere age of thirteen.

This development shocked even the most accomplished cultivators. At that age, it was a given that only people with innate ability would only be able to form the Golden Core (and attain the rank of Martial Warrior if you're talented enough) but Wāng Cheng seemed to defy all odds. Even if he was not yet of age, Sect Elders from various sects were instantly drawn to him like moths to a flame, trying to curry favor with him so he would want to join their sect. In the end, he never joined any sect, although it was presumed that he eventually became a disciple of an unknown master when he was out on his travels.

But unfortunately, the genius Wāng Cheng died prematurely together with his wife, leaving their infant daughter behind.

While the world was saddened by the loss of such tremendous talent, they had no choice but to move on.

They started to set their sights on Wāng Cheng's daughter, Wāng Ying Yue, hoping she'd grow up to be as – or if possible, even more talented than her father.

Alas! She unexpectedly turned out to be a good for nothing. This revelation stained the Wāng Clan's almost flawless reputation, causing chaos to break out in not just the capital, but the whole state. The matter grew even more worse because of some people's wagging tongues. Following this sudden revelation, the Wāng Clan lost favor with the Emperor.

Naturally, all the fingers were pointed to the useless 'Wāng Ying Yue'.

The Wāng Clan kept their mouths shut about the matter, but it was obvious to whomever would dare to look that they blamed 'Wāng Ying Yue' for making them lose favor with the Emperor.

Them receiving the Emperor's favor again seemed like a far-fetched, even frivolous, idea, but in contrast to everyone's expectations, Emperor Xia had a sudden change of heart approximately around five months ago.

The news of the Wāng Clan regaining the Emperor's favor came as a shock to everyone in the state, most especially to the other two well known clans – the Ming and the Ye Clan. A few days later, the Emperor also declared the Ninth Prince's engagement with 'Wāng Ying Yue' of all people.

If the Wāng Clan regaining the dragon's favor didn't shock them that much, the sudden engagement of the Ninth Prince and the black sheep of the Wāng Clan inevitably left them stumped with a million of questions.

'What was His Majesty thinking, marrying his own son to a good for nothing?'

'The Ninth Prince was very proficient in martial arts. As someone who had already attained the World King rank at sixteen, I'm sure he would want a wife that could match his strength.'

'If His Majesty was already thinking of matching his son to someone in the Wāng Clan, however absurd it may be, he should have chosen wisely and picked Wāng Dongmei.'

Indeed, Wāng Dongmei, one of the two daughters of the First Branch's Young Master (the other being Wāng Huifen), was the current young genius of the Wāng Clan. Her skills may not be comparable to Wāng Cheng's, but the sixteen year old Second Young Miss had already achieved a lot of things that other people her age would only dare hope to dream of.

At sixteen, she had already attained the rank of Martial General, at level seven. Just a couple more levels and she would be able to advance to the Martial King rank. People estimated that she would breeze through the next two levels in a couple of years and a half at the least, three years at the most if she was fortunate enough not to encounter a bottleneck.

Just this achievement gained her both admiration and recognition from her peers. Moreover, Wāng Dongmei had already entered the Immortal Sect, and was thought to be on her way to becoming an inner sect disciple.

Talents and skills aside, she was also very beautiful. In fact, she was regarded as the number one beauty in the capital.

Thus, it would make much more sense if the Emperor decided to make her his son's fiancée.

But contrary to everyone's expectations, he picked 'Wāng Ying Yue' instead.

As Wāng Ying Yue scoured through the original body's memories, her lips curled into a sneer. 'Wāng Ying Yue' was born as a good for nothing? She couldn't have heard a more, funnier joke if she heard one.

She touched her lower abdomen where her cultivation base should be. A faint, barely discernible spiritual power could be felt through her fingers, yet it was extremely weak. There wasn't any response from her spiritual root either.

It was true that 'Wang Ying Yue' had poor cultivation skills. 'However...' The dark smirk remained on her lips as she let a thread of spiritual power emit from her fingertips, probing into her cultivation base for the tendrils of spiritual power she may have missed while examining it earlier. 'It wasn't because of a natural born defect. No, it wasn't that reason at all. There was someone – someone malicious enough to purposely damage her cultivation base, and simultaneously, her meridians, thus weakening her spiritual root, and rendering her cultivation useless. And the culprit...'

Her eyes darkened at the prospect, yet the smirk remained plastered on her face.

'Might probably be from her very own 'family.'
