"What? How is it Shaun's?" I ask, taken aback by this news.
Brittany looks down, "All this deceit is making me feel sick, I just need to come clean about everything. My mom slept with Shaun last night, and I got really mad. Remember this morning? How I missed training? I was with Shaun. And last night, Red and I didn't do anything. He fell asleep on the couch after we talked for twenty minutes, and he got up early to practice this morning."
Red and I both stand in silence, shocked by this news. Brittany closes her door, leaving Red and I alone in the hallway.
"Well, yes then. I'd love to go on a date with you." I say to Red.
"Really? That's awesome."
"Would you want to get lunch tomorrow?"
"Oh no, I can't. I have my competition tomorrow."
I totally forgot about Red's snowboarding competition. It'll be one of the first of the Olympics. He and I agree to lunch in three days, since I have to bobsled the day after tomorrow. The next morning, we have training again, Violet and I are the first to show up again. Something seems off with her today.
"Vi, what's wrong?" I question.
"Oh nothing. It's just. Umm. I need to tell you something," she mumbles.
"What is it? You can tell me anything."
Just as she opened her mouth to respond, Brittany and Janessa burst in. Violet changes her attitude almost immediately. "Okay ladies, we have one day left to train. We need to focus and work hard."
The four of us unpack the bobsled and bring it to the track. We pull it back and push it forward repeatedly to build up the momentum. We release it and start running as fast as we can. Violet jumps in first since she's the diver, I hop in next, then Brittany jumps in behind me (we are both crewmen), and finally Janessa gets in at the back–she is the breakman. The sled zooms down the track, but we quickly lose speed. We move so slow that we barely make it through the finish line. All of us are so disappointed in ourselves.
"What was that?!" Violet demands.
"I'm sorry," Janessa says, "I was breaking too often during that run."
"Tomorrow, don't brake. Ever."
We continue training and we go a few more rounds on the track, but after a few hours, our time slot for the track is up. The four of us, exhausted and discouraged, head back to the Olympic Village. I shower and get ready quickly so I can go watch Red snowboard.
I get to the slopes just in time, he is at the top of the mountain about to go down. His run is amazing! He lands everything perfectly, and he does it with ease. Once everyone is done, they announce the winners. Red gets the gold!! After the podium ceremony, he gets down and looks around. His eyes land on me and he runs over. Red lifts me up and kisses me! Is this a dream?! How insane is this, Red Gerard just kissed me.
