The next day, Hugo was dressed in his Rosebud uniform, and he was waiting for Garrick and Grimtrix. Queen Samira could see that her son was getting restless. "Something wrong, honey?" she asked.
"I'm just waiting for Dad and Uncle Grim—they said they wanted to come with me on my first Rosebud trip, but they seem to be taking an awfully long time," Hugo replied. "If they don't hurry, we'll be late."
Suddenly, Garrick's voice rang out, "Ready to go, champ?" He showed up wearing a pink top with a darker pink vest and a pink version of his usual jacket much to Hugo's surprise.
"Dad, is that you?" Hugo gasped.
"Of course—who else would I be?" Garrick chuckled.
"I never thought I'd see you wear pink," Hugo declared.
"Well, I figured that if you and your brother are brave enough to wear pink for Valentine's Day, I figured I should wear pink for a change," Garrick declared.
"Wow, it sounds like Hugo started a whole new legacy: the men in our family should be brave enough to have a girly streak," Axel beamed.
"What about Uncle Grim?" Hugo asked.
"He hasn't found his streak yet, but he's dressed for the occasion," Garrick declared.
Grimtrix showed up, wearing a pink version of his ensemble. "Here I am," he said.
"Wow, this is something," Hugo smiled.
"Well, we'd better get a move on—we don't want to be late," Garrick declared. He, Grimtrix, and Hugo got their flying horses and flew off to Enchancia Castle.
In Enchancia Castle, the Rosebud girls were waiting for Hugo to come. Sofia was even holding a bouquet of ice lilies for Miss Nettle.
"Where is Hugo?" Sofia asked. "We're going to be late."
Soon enough, Hugo, Garrick, and Grimtrix. "Here we are," he called. "Sorry we're so late."
"We, Hugo?" Sofia asked.
"My dad and Uncle Grim wanted to come, so they could spend more time with me," Hugo said.
"Ah, great to see you both," Mrs. Prescott smiled.
Seeing these two men dressed in pink made Ruby and Jade crack up a little, which disgusted Sofia and Hugo.
"What's so funny?" Sofia asked coldly.
"Can't you see, Sofia?" Ruby snickered. "Have you ever seen men wear pink?"
"Yes, I've seen boys wear pink at the Valentine's Day ball," Sofia recalled.
"Okay, Rosebuds, let's move out," Mrs. Prescott said.
"We'll go on our flying horses," King Garrick said.
"Fair enough," Mrs. Prescott nodded.
The Rosebuds climbed into the flying coaches, and off they went to Miss Nettle's garden. Sofia could see that Ruby and Jade were snickering.
"What on earth are you laughing about?" Sofia snapped.
"Isn't it obvious, Sofia?" Jade chortled. "King Garrick and his brother are wearing pink."
"So what?" Sofia scoffed. "Hugo is wearing pink, too."
"That's because he's a Rosebud," Ruby protested.
"King Garrick and Grimtrix probably wanted to get into the Rosebud mood, too," Sofia surmised.
"Sofia is right," Mrs. Prescott agreed. "It's important to be respectful and polite, not rude and poking fun at other people. Making fun of a boy for wearing pink is like making fun of a girl for wearing blue."
Jade didn't like the sound of that—blue was her favorite color, but she still found it ridiculous to see a couple of men wearing pink.
