Y/N stands for Your Name ; YBFN stands for Your Best Friend's Name

George MacKay had always been in Y/N's life for as far as she could remember. Indeed he was her best friend's brother and ever since pre-school, Y/N had known her best friend. Both of them had grown young and beautiful women and were now apart for Y/N had gone abroad in a foreign college. Although she missed her best friend and parents for it was the first time she went for so long out of her birth city, she had never managed to get some days off. Her best friend and George were always on their mind and especially the latter to which she had always achieved hiding her feelings.

It was only now that she was miles away from George that she knew what her feelings really were. For all these years, she had grown madly in love with him. Whenever he would introduce his girlfriends to his family and thus to Y/N who was always around their place, toying with dolls and then with video games, she would feel her heart pounding faster. She thought several times that it was only because she cared about him and was happy for him but all it was really was utter jealousy. She poised her own brain daydreaming of what it could be to his but hid it so well that even her best friend could not notice any change in her. She thought that it would pass, that it was just a phase but weeks became months that became years and she could not possibly date anyone without thinking of how great it could be with George. She had seen George accomplishing his dream of becoming an actor and could only think of the numerous times she had attended his plays at school, wishing for the best in hope that such a talent would not go to waste.

She decided to watch "1917" as the weekend got close and she could unwind a little before starting yet another week. Holidays were approaching so teachers would put even more pressure than usual but she thought that she deserved a treat. Once the film had started, Y/N was engrossed in it both for the gripping storyline and for George's performance. Before watching this film, she had only watched "Pride !" and "Captain Fantastic" starring her long-lasting and long-distance crush but really with this film, she saw a far more mature role as if it was tailored for George. He shone in the film which made Y/N speechless and even more confused than she already was. Despite the fact that she had many essays to give in and courses to attend, Y/N was unable to resist to watching "1917" a second time. And then a third time. Days passed slowly and Y/N's sole relief was thinking of the film. Oddly enough and against all odds, Y/N did well with end of her semester and could even hope to go on holidays sooner than expected. At that time of the year, she would start removing all her Christmas decorations thinking that yet another Christmas season had passed with her not being able to get back to her natal country. So on a whim she booked a ticket to get to her place. She decided to keep it a surprise to her best friend and only texted her mother to make her know of when she would land at the airport.

Luggage ready and her mind set on hugging once more her best friend that she started terribly to miss, Y/N got into a plane thinking of how it would feel to find back the warmth of her best friend's arms around her waist. With a bit of luck, George would even be there and it would be exactly how it used to be. Y/N could have done the path from the airport to her best friend's house with her eyes shut if she did not have to borrow a train and a bus to get there. Y/N could not wish for more than the welcome she got from her best friend's family. As she rang to the door, she expected to see her friend's parents but it was George who opened the door. Needless to say that Y/N was as surprised to see George that George was to see Y/N.

"Y/N?", he exclaimed half questioning half extremely glad to finally see her again after so much time.

When Y/N had left for another country, he finally acknowledged that he was in love with her and thought that it was a waste that he was off filming when his sister accompanied her to the airport. He thought that at that moment, he would have finally confessed his feelings but as the weeks passed, he realized that he would have been too shy for that. Especially to say it in public would have been an impediment. He might well be an actor, he was unable to express his feelings to his family or to Y/N. After a semester had passed, George finally collected himself and instead of texting Y/N to tell her, he went for his sister's support. She comforted him, assuring him that Y/N was the nice kind (not that he doubted that in Y/N) and that if she did not feel the same way, she would not make a whole thing out of it. That telling her was the only way for him to move on. She promised her brother not to mention it to Y/N but in exchange she made him promise that whenever Y/N would be back, he would have to tell her. And here she was, on the threshold of his family house.
