Fluff, fluff and fluff! During a family meeting, Richard asks the most important question.
Y/N and Richard would always come back to simple times. Sure, parading on red carpets was fun and being given a voice to express your opinions was awesome but going back to a tranquil setting, amid the Scottish moors was far more their go-to. They preferred spending days away far from the crowd rather than sophisticated venues.
This time though, it would be an adventure. Richard had a whole plan going on. He would propose to Y/N. He set up for a casual proposal as he knew Y/N was not the kind to crave histrionic moves.
The two of them had already spent a few days at their cottage they had bought a few months back when Richard suggested that the two of them could have dinner at his parents' house. Little did Y/N know that his siblings would be there too, along with their children. Y/N had already met the lot and had become fond of them since the day they met. The feeling had been mutual early on and Richard's sisters would tease him here and there on the fact that Y/N was too perfect for him. Richard of all people was the last to argue that fact.
As a matter of fact it was partly because he knew just how great she was to him and that he could never find someone better that he wanted to be her husband as soon as possible. He did not want to waste any more time.
"Y/N!", Richard's mother greeted her with a warm hug to which Y/N had grown accustomed. Usually, Richard's mother would forget to greet her own son being too busy welcoming her son's partner. Richard giggled at the sight of his mother showing her affection of the sort to the woman he was about to kneel in front of. His mother had the biggest impact on his life and he needed her approval to propose to Y/N and just seing her that way almost made him propose on the threshold.
Y/N with an irrepressible laughter that ignited from both the contact and her lover's own laugh handed a bunch of flowers to Richard's mother. As Richard's mother thanked her, took the flowers and invited them in, Richard questioned Y/N on where those flowers came from, since he had been caught off guard and thanked her for the gentle attention by kissing her forehead.
Everyone stood up from the chairs they occupied before to greet the two lovers. Richard was holding Y/N by the waist, letting her walk first in the room. Gladly surprised to see all the family gathered Y/N quickly shook hands and hugged the adults whereas she would spend more time with the kids to joke with them. Richard too would make funny faces to his nephews and nieces, picking the youngest from the floor to play a few seconds with him. Richard was way too excited about the big news he had rehearsed more carefully than he would rehearse his lines.
After a few minutes, the assembly started to have dinner in a cheerful ambiance with the laughters Richard had missed while away and the anecdotes that Y/N was never tired of hearing. As he saw his mother going to the kitchen, Richard discreetly left the table to reach out for her. He had to share it with someone for he thought he was about to burst. And who better than his own mother?
Once in the kitchen, Richard pretended to help his mother but the words escaped. They had been boiling for too long in his mouth. Quietly and naturally, he said to his mother who kept on telling him just how great Y/N was: "I'm gonna propose to her tonight"
His mother almost let go of the plate she was holding when she heard those words and breathed out a cry of excitement that Richard had to muffle not to draw attention.
"You are? Oh -", she could not say anything else as she held her son tight in her arms "I'm just so happy for you"
"Well she hasn't said yes yet"
Richard came back and sat still for the rest of the marvellous dinner his parents and sisters had cooked. But as the conversation grew more tranquil, Richard suddenly stood up and asked to be heard.
"I have something to say to the person I wake up for every day", he now looked directly at Y/N not caring about anyone else "Y/N, you make me a better person and I can't start thanking you for that. If I had thought of meeting the greatest person ever, it would not have been remotely close to what I have the chance of knowing every day that I get to spend with you. When I'm away, it feels like I'm not fully me. Only you have this effect on me and I only regret not meeting you sooner. You have changed my life tremendously and forever and I simply don't want it to end. In fact, I would want for tonight to be the beginning of our lives together."
Richard kneeled before Y/N as Richard's family became slightly ecstatic. "Y/N, you would make me the luckiest man on Earth if you would accept spending the rest of your life with me" and as Richard opened a red box on a sapphire ring he asked "Y/N will you marry me?"
In awe and her palms attached to her cheeks, Y/N crammed as many words as she could before she started to cry "Yes, yes, yes. A million times"
Richard stroked Y/N's hand while displaying the ring on her finger and as he stood up, he whispered "I love you" to Y/N's ear with tears in his voice threatening to escape his eyes.
