It has now been two months of winter. My wound is obviously permanent, but it doesn't hurt too much anymore. We also have a new addition to the pack. When Mist was out hunting last month, he brought back an orphan pup that he found almost dead out in the cold. I kept convincing him to leave the pup, but he finally convinced me to take it in. We named him Everest, and he had gotten the idea that we're his parents... we aren't even mates! One day he's gonna find out, but for now we are just focused on keeping him and ourselves alive, which is very complicated. But Everest is a strong pup, he'll be a great fighter and hunter when he grows up. But for now, Mist and I are focused on getting that territory. And that I why we have planned that today we will raid. We still have to trust Everest to stay in the den, though. And sure enough, I hear him coming up behind me. He never leaves us alone! "MOM! MOM! WHEN WILL YOU TRAIN ME TO HUNT AND FIGHT?" I hear him yip. He's been nagging me about this for days...

"Soon, Everest, soon! But if you want me to ever train you, then you must complete a task!" Hah. Came up with the perfect plan to get him to stay put. He sits down, intrigued.
"Mist and I are going off on a mission, and we need you to guard the den! But make sure to hide good! And don't come out if you hear any enemies!"

"Wait, isn't that throwing away the whole entire point of guarding?" His tail slows down and he tilts his head, his expression purely confused.

"Nope, this is a special kind of guarding! Now into the den!" I explain, hoping he'll buy it. He nods and runs back to the den, hiding immediately. Mist, who's been spectating the conversation chuckles at Everest's naiveness. I chuckle as well and then nod my head. "Well, let's get going." I reminded. He stood up and followed.

We had arrived once more. Mist went around right, and I took left. We would corner the wolves. I see Mist on the other side of the tree and make brief eye contact with him before we both run in and start tackling the two wolves. Everything is a mess, I can't tell who's winning, I just know that it's got my adrenaline pumping faster than ever.

As things finally clear up, I realize that I've got the black wolf in a hold. This is my chance. I dive forward and sink my teeth into her throat, immediately tasting blood. However, I am caught off guard when I hear Mist yelp. I completely let go of the rival and run to him, shoving the red wolf away with all my force. As I fly by, I catch den-full pups in my vision. No... we predicated it correctly, there are pups now! All because we didn't attack sooner. And as I'm distracted, the black wolf stands back up and leaps onto me, pinning me. But thanks to Mist, she wasn't able to attack. He slashed her face, pushing her back. "Thunderstorm, let's just go!" He yelps. The rival pack is winning again, and Everest is waiting back at home. It seems his point is logical, and so I run, feeling like a coward, but at least not dead.
