Billie's POV
"What...what's going on James?" Sara laughs "James? Since when do you call my dad James, that's gross." He huffs "that's a little hard to explain." I look back at Sara "how could you do that to me? You don't know what you put me through, You made me think that you we're-" Her father stops me from saying Dead for some reason. "She didn't do anything" Emma chimes in "that's right, everything's fine!" "Fine?!" Are they fucking crazy? I look back at Sara, holding back my tears "Just tell me! Just tell me why you shut me out. Come on!" "What? Stop acting so weird!" "I'm not acting weird, stop playing stupid!" "I'm not, your freaking out for no reason!" I throw my arms up "okay, fuck you people. All of you...ya'know what Sara, it's one thing to say you want to see other people but to go and do this-". "Wait, who said I wanted to break up with you?!" Her father pulls me into the hall and slams me against the wall. "We're going to have a calm conversation. Just you and me, in the kitchen okay?" "Fine." I follow him to the kitchen and sit at the table across from him. "Well....she's not dead." "Yeah I see that, what the fuck?! I mean...why couldn't you tell me?" "Cause she was dead." "...what?" "She died! She died and she's not dead now, I don't know why...but she's back so who cares why." We buried her...I have to see her grave. "I'll be right back." "Where are you going?" "Just wait!" I run down the street and across to the cemetery. I find her gravestone and look down. There's a hole in the ground. I run back to the house and James is waiting for me at the front door. "There's a hole in the ground where she was buried." He nods. "Yesterday about two hours after the funeral the door bell rang and it was Sara. I don't know how or why this happened but it happened and now she's back."
"Okay, wait a minute...you said she was really dead and then you said she wasn't dead so what are you saying? You're saying that she just dug herself up from her own grave and walked home?" "Yes...I don't know. She was pronounced dead at the scene, they said she died on impact...but she's back now and she doesn't remember any of it." "But...but what is that she's dead and now she's not? I mean was she really dead?! I mean what are you saying? That's she's a zombie?" Her mom walks in when I utter the word zombie. "Excuse me but that is my baby girl and she isn't a zombie." Her father agrees "that's right. She was redirected." "And why is that better? Cause it's biblical?!" Her dad nods "you should be looking at this as a miracle." "Miracle? SHE COULD BE A ZOMBIE." "Stop saying that." "Well shouldn't we have a doctor or something STUDY her." Suddenly Sara walks in asking her mom where her books are. "Oh, there in that box with your jewelry." "Why is all my stuff in boxes now?" Her father whispers to me "not a word." Sara looks at me "hey Bill." She kisses me "wanna go to the attic?" "The attic? No. Why the attic?" Her dad laughs "she likes the attic now, just go...go and tell her what you wanted to tell her before it happened." She shoves me infront of her and pushes me up the ladder leading into the attic where she has made herself a new room. I sit down on the mattress and she sits next to me. I scoot away from here and she giggles. "Come here." I don't move so she moves closer to me and runs her hand through my hair. "Your hair is warm." "My hair is warm? W-what does that mean....do you want to eat me or something?" She slaps my arm and laughs. "Ewww Bill, not with my parents home!" "No I mean like eat me, eat me...like my flesh." "Bill, why are you acting so weird?..Like you, Mom, and Dad...what's going on?" "Do you really not remember what happened last week?" "Ugh...I don't know, did u do something that pissed you off?" "Just tell me what you remember." She rolls her eyes "I don't know it's all a blur, why?" "So...you don't remember me yelling at you, and you storming out and getting in a car accident?" She shakes her head "honestly I can't really think straight right now." "Well...what about ya'know...wanting to see other people...breaking up with me?" "Why do you keep saying that? I don't want to break up with you, I love you..." She starts getting upset and I hug her "I would never want to break up with you, why do you keep saying that?" I hold her closer "Don't, don't cry..." "Why are you being so mean?" "I'm not...I just..I've been thinking about us." She lets go of me "It's bad stuff isn't it?" "No! No, it's really really good stuff...like you're my favorite person in the whole world and I don't know what I'd do without you. I want to sing with you more, be there for you more....be with you more, we didn't- I mean, don't spend enough time together and when we do we were always yelling at each other but...that all changes now. I love you so much." After that speech she's practically drowning in her own tears. "I love you so much Bill...I love you to death, you're my everything." She loves me to death...that's ironic.
"We should go do something." Sara says. "Yeah, go to the movies?" She smiles "yeah." I take her hand and keep holding it while climbing down the ladder together. "Did you guys have fun up there?" Her mom asks, what the hell does she think we did up there? Like damn chill lady. "Yep, we're gonna go see a movie." "Ugh I don't think that's such a good idea sweetie..." Her dad says wide eyed. "Why not?" "Yeah why not James?" "Well...it's late. A lot of weirdos go to theaters at night." Good cover, James. Sara laughs "what?" "Look, just stay here... We can have a quite night in and we can play board games." "Eww, we can just watch tv." We end up staying. Sara and I sit on a couch in her living room while her parents sit across from us on another sofa. Sara has her iPad in her lap, we listen to music off of that. I open up this app she has that you can draw in and I write a math equation.
128√e980 she looks at me curiously. I hit the erase button and swipe the top half away, revealing the words "I love you." She smiles at me and I smile back. God how I missed this. I don't know how she's back...but she is and I want to make the most of it. After sitting there for hours I realize their housekeeper Martine isn't there. "What happened to Martine?" "Oh, I fired her. She was practicing some type of voodoo or whatever so I told her to get lost." Her dad says. She was Haitian...lots of them practice that type of thing, I guess...what if she brought Sara back?
